Handbook of Research on Leadership and Creativity (Paperback): Michael D Mumford, Sven Hemlin Handbook of Research on Leadership and Creativity (Paperback)
Michael D Mumford, Sven Hemlin
R1,529 Discovery Miles 15 290 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The rapid pace of technological change and globalization of products, competition and services have conspired to place a new premium on innovation for firms across the world. Although many variables influence creativity and innovation, the effective leadership of creative teams has proved especially important. This timely Handbook presents the state of the art for what leaders must do to lead creative teams and how they should do it. Handbook of Research on Leadership and Creativity is divided into three major sections. The first section on leadership functions identifies key activities that must be executed by leaders if creative efforts are to prove successful. The next section explains creative leadership using available theoretical models, examining the effects of leader behaviors on follower creativity. The final section investigates specific domains where organizations seek creativity. It covers the creative domains of research and development as well as military and academia, which have not traditionally been viewed as domains where creative leadership is critical. This comprehensive Handbook makes a significant contribution to the literature on creativity and innovation and will be welcomed as an accessible yet authoritative text by students, teachers and researchers alike. Contributors: S. Acar, R. Bathurst, L. Bennich-Bjoerkman, A. Carmeli, S. Connelly, D. De Paoli, D.C. Derrick, T.L. Friedrich, S. Hemlin, C. Higgs, S.T. Hunter, S.G. Isaksen, K.S. Jaussi, B.S. Creativity and Leadership in Science, Technology, and Innovation (Paperback): Sven Hemlin, Carl Martin Allwood, Ben Martin,... Creativity and Leadership in Science, Technology, and Innovation (Paperback)
Sven Hemlin, Carl Martin Allwood, Ben Martin, Michael D Mumford
R1,650 Discovery Miles 16 500 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Leadership is vital to creativity and successful innovation in groups and organizations; leadership is however seldom studied in the academic literature as a creativity driver. One reason for the lack of attention paid to leadership's effect on creativity may be the common belief that creativity cannot and should not be managed. Creative individuals and groups are regarded as, and indeed often are, autonomous and self-driving. From this belief the erroneous conclusion is drawn that there is no need for leadership in creative environments and situations. The better conclusion, proposed by this book, is that leadership not only stimulates creativity, but that such a leadership in the science, technology, and innovation fields should specifically possess at least two features: a) expertise in the field(s), and b) an ability to create, support, and encourage individuals, groups, and creative knowledge environments. A number of specialist authors in this volume offer original theoretical, empirical, and applied chapters that elucidate how to better organize and lead creative efforts in science, technology, and innovation. A number of important research questions are raised and answered, including: What kinds of leaderships are needed at different levels of S&T organizations for a creative output? What social and cognitive abilities and skills are needed for leadership in creative environments? How does leadership vary with different phases of the creative process? This book offers concrete analysis of how leaders and managers can facilitate, promote, and organize for creative performance in science, technology, and in innovating organizations, making it required reading for academic and industrial research leaders, scientists, and engineers.

Michael D Mumford
R1,802 Discovery Miles 18 020 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The intent of this book is to provide a comprehensive comparison of charismatic, ideological, and pragmatic leadership. One hundred twenty leaders from government, military, business, religion, and politics are examined with respect to key leadership behaviors, including problem solving, leader-follower interactions, communications, politics, and integrity. Additionally, the implications of these paths for development and performance are examined. Most prior books on outstanding leadership have focused exclusively on vision-based leadership and have not focused on historically notable leaders and incidents of truly outstanding leadership. Case material from relevant biographies illustrate in concrete form the conclusions flowing from the various quantitative analyses. This is an important book for university and organizational courses on leadership.

Michael D Mumford, Tanner R. Newbold, Mark Fichtel, Samantha England
R535 Discovery Miles 5 350 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Creativity, the generation of novel and useful ideas, and innovation, the transformation of these ideas into new products, processes, and services, are both critical for the long-term viability, profitability, and growth of organizations. Moreover, the complex, risky, and uncertain nature of innovative efforts demonstrates the importance of organizational leaders to effectively manage the innovative process. In this element, we discuss the role of leaders in effectively facilitating the creative problem-solving process that gives rise to innovative products, processes, and services. More specifically, we highlight the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed to effectively lead across three integrated facets of this process-leading the people, leading the work, and leading the firm. This discussion promotes an understanding of how leaders manage those asked to engage in innovative efforts and, moreover, how leaders systematically integrate creative ideas within the organization to ensure the development and success of innovative products, processes, or services.

Leader Thinking Skills - Capacities for Contemporary Leadership (Paperback): Michael D Mumford, Cory A. Higgs Leader Thinking Skills - Capacities for Contemporary Leadership (Paperback)

Multi Level Issues in Creativity and Innovation (Hardcover): Michael D Mumford, Samuel T. Hunter, Katrina E. Bedell-Avers Multi Level Issues in Creativity and Innovation (Hardcover)
Michael D Mumford, Samuel T. Hunter, Katrina E. Bedell-Avers; Series edited by Francis J. Yammarino, Fred Dansereau
R3,023 Discovery Miles 30 230 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Multi-Level Issues in Creativity and Innovation is Volume 7 of Research in Multi-Level Issues, an annual series that provides an outlet for the discussion of multi-level problems and solutions across a variety of fields of study. Using a scientific debate format of a key scholarly essay followed by two commentaries and a rebuttal, we present, in this series, theoretical work, significant empirical studies, methodological developments, analytical techniques, and philosophical treatments to advance the field of multi-level studies, regardless of disciplinary perspective.Similar to Volumes 1 through 6 (Yammarino & Dansereau, 2002, 2004, 2006; Dansereau & Yammarino, 2003, 2005, 2007), this volume, Volume 7, edited by Mumford, Hunter, and Bedell-Avers, contains five major essays with commentaries and rebuttals that cover a range of topics, but in the realms of creativity and innovation. In particular, the five critical essays offer extensive literature reviews, new model developments, methodological advancements, and some data for the study of creativity and social influence, innovation and planning, creativity and cognitive processes, sub-system configuration, and new venture emergence. While each of the major essays, and associated commentaries and rebuttals, is unique in orientation, they show a common bond in raising and addressing multi-level issues or discussing problems and solutions that involve multiple levels of analysis in creativity and innovation. It is available in print and online via ScienceDirect. It provides in-depth scholarly information on multiple level issues in organizations and time. It is international in scope.

"O magnify the Lord with me " (Ps. 34:3). One effective way to closely examine and worth-ship God is to meditate on what the Scriptures specifically testify that "God is." As the Holy Spirit progressively opens the God is statements of the Bible to us, we discover the fusion of the Trinity. In this sixth volume, we will continue investigating "God is true" (John 3:33) to discover why Father, Son, and Spirit, together, are "the Most High God" (Ps. 78:35; Heb. 7:1). The Scriptures consistently use economic terms to describe how these three Eternals add to and exalt One Another by sacrificial Self-giving in reciprocal gene-rosity. The economy of the kingdom functions by giving and receiving in order to give again, which yields superabundant bounty. Human beings "fell" out of the abundant life of the Most High because we "exchanged the truth of God relational altruism] for the lie eros individualism]" (Rom. 1:25); we 'bought into' the corrupt economy of the world that operates by buying and selling one another for self-indulgence, which precipitates famine.

R1,919 Discovery Miles 19 190 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This is the second of four volumes that will eventually present the full corpus of Zariski's mathematical contributions. Like the first volume (subtitled Foundations of Algebraic Geometry and Resolution of Singularities and edited by H. Hironaka and D. Mumford), it is divided into two parts, each devoted to a large but circumscribed area of research activity. The first part, containing eight papers introduced by Artin, deals with the theory of formal holomorphic functions on algebraic varieties over fields of any characteristic. The primary concern, in Zariski's words, is "analytic properties of an algebraic variety V, either in the neighborhood of a point (strictly local theory) or - and this is the deeper aspect of the theory - in the neighborhood of an algebraic subvariety of V (semiglobal theory)." Mumford surveys the ten papers reprinted in the second part. These deal with linear systems and the Riemann-Roch theorem and its applications, again in arbitrary characteristic. The applications are primarily to algebraic surfaces and include minimal models and characterization of rational or ruled surfaces.
