Many important planning decisions in society and business depend on
proper knowledge and a correct understanding of movement, be it in
transportation, logistics, biology, or the life sciences. Today the
widespread use of mobile phones and technologies like GPS and RFID
provides an immense amount of data on location and movement. What
is needed are new methods of visualization and algorithmic data
analysis that are tightly integrated and complement each other to
allow end-users and analysts to extract useful knowledge from these
extremely large data volumes. This is exactly the topic of this
book. As the authors show, modern visual analytics techniques are
ready to tackle the enormous challenges brought about by movement
data, and the technology and software needed to exploit them are
available today. The authors start by illustrating the different
kinds of data available to describe movement, from individual
trajectories of single objects to multiple trajectories of many
objects, and then proceed to detail a conceptual framework, which
provides the basis for a fundamental understanding of movement
data. With this basis, they move on to more practical and technical
aspects, focusing on how to transform movement data to make it more
useful, and on the infrastructure necessary for performing visual
analytics in practice. In so doing they demonstrate that visual
analytics of movement data can yield exciting insights into the
behavior of moving persons and objects, but can also lead to an
understanding of the events that transpire when things move.
Throughout the book, they use sample applications from various
domains and illustrate the examples with graphical depictions of
both the interactive displays and the analysis results. In summary,
readers will benefit from this detailed description of the state of
the art in visual analytics in various ways. Researchers will
appreciate the scientific precision involved, software
technologists will find essential information on algorithms and
systems, and practitioners will profit from readily accessible
examples with detailed illustrations for practical purposes.
Rest in Mesopotamian and Israelite Literature studies the concept
of rest in the Hebrew Bible and ancient Near Eastern literature.
Through close examination of Mesopotamian texts and selections from
the Deuteronomistic History and Chronicles, Kim delineates a
concept of rest for each body of literature, and employs a
comparative approach to illuminate the rest motif in the Hebrew
Bible in light of Mesopotamian literature.

A mother's love letter to her son-featuring more than sixty
gluten-, dairy-, soy-, casein-, and nut-free recipes. A portion of
proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to autism
research. This heartfelt cookbook tells the story of a mother
desperate to heal and connect with her hard-to-reach, severely
autistic son, Leo, through the most vital everyday
activity-cooking. For many years, Erica Daniels had been out to
find a successful dietary intervention for eleven-year-old Leo, who
suffers from significant food allergies, gastrointestinal disease,
and autism. Through trial and error in her own kitchen, she finally
hit her gastronomic stride of preparing nourishing meals for her
entire family without gluten, dairy, soy, nuts, additives, or
GMOS-with Leo by her side. Part cookbook and part love story,
Cooking with Leo takes you into the real life messy kitchen of a
family affected by autism and food allergies. You will laugh and
cry along with Erica and Leo as they cook, create, dance, act
silly, and, most importantly, bond. A family-inspired collection of
over 60 allergen-free and autism diet-friendly recipes to be
prepared and shared together by your whole family, you will make
meaningful connections with your child and nurture their passion
for cooking with nutritious recipes such as: Teff-Tough Honey
Waffles Football Sunday Turkey Chili Grandma's Healing Chicken Soup
Leo's Italian Artichokes Nanny's Rhubarb Sauce YouTube Organic
Gummy Candies, and more! Learn not only to cook nutritiously for
your whole family, but also to connect with your children, find
their gifts and develop their strengths, impart life skills, and
tie the family together with healthy food and happy guts.
As interest in social capital has grown over the past
decade-particularly in public health -so has the lack of consensus
on exactly what it is and what makes it worth studying. Ichiro
Kawachi, a widely respected leader in the field, and 21
contributors (including physicians, economists, and public health
experts) discuss the theoretical origins of social capital, the
strengths and limitations of current methodologies of measuring it,
and salient examples of social capital concepts informing public
health practice. Among the highlights: Measurement methods: survey,
sociometric, ethnographic, experimental The relationship between
social capital and physical health and health behaviors: smoking,
substance abuse, physical activity, sexual activity Social capital
and mental health: early findings Social capital and the aging
community Social capital and disaster preparedness Social Capital
and Health is certain to inspire a new generation of research on
this topic, and will be of interest to researchers and advanced
students in public health, health behavior, and social
epidemiology.

This book examines cultural representations of African American and
Asian American masculinity, focusing primarily on the major works
of two influential figures, Ralph Ellison and Frank Chin. It
highlights the language of gender and sexuality that writers use to
depict the psychological injuries inflicted by racism on men of
color - a language that relies on metaphors of emasculation. The
book focuses on how homosexuality comes to function as a powerful
symbol for a feminizing racism, and explains why this disturbing
symbolism proves to be so rhetorically and emotionally effective.
This study also explores the influential concept of literature that
these writers promote - a view of writing as a cultural and
political activity capable of producing the most virile and
racially authentic forms of manhood. In comparing African American
and Asian American writings, this book offers the first scholarly
account of how black and yellow conceptions of masculinity are
constructed in relation to each other.

evidence-based medicine and applies them to the design of
translational research. The book provides valuable discussions on
the critical appraisal of published studies and recent developments
in radiation oncology, allowing readers to learn how to evaluate
the quality of such studies with respect to measuring outcomes and
make effective use of all types of evidence. By reading this book,
researchers have access to a practical approach to help them
navigate challenging considerations in study design and
implementation. It is a valuable resource for researchers,
oncologists and members of biomedical field who want to understand
more about translational research applied to the field of radiation
oncology. Translational medicine serves as an indispensable tool in
grant writing and funding efforts, so understanding how to apply
its principles to research is necessary to guarantee that results
will be impactful to patients.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation at MIT: Continuing Global Growth
and Impact updates an earlier survey (Entrepreneurial Impact: The
Role of MIT) to explore the continuing contribution of MIT alumni
to innovation and entrepreneurship in the United States and
worldwide. This update is particularly salient given the burgeoning
interest in the role of universities in economic growth and the
fact that students who graduated between 2004 and 2014 faced a more
difficult economic climate. On the one hand, fund raising and
capital access became more challenging as the U.S. economy entered
a period of deep recession starting at the end of 2007, and venture
capital asSets and investments declined. On the other hand,
entrepreneurship concurrently became a potentially more appealing
career choice due both to structural and perceptual changes in
traditional employment and occupations, as well as to an apparent
groundswell in young people's interests in entrepreneurial
endeavors. Overall, our new findings indicate that MIT alumni are
engaged in entrepreneurship and innovation at ever increasing
rates, and at earlier and earlier stages in their lives.
