Over the last ten years, the financing and diversity of new players
in global health have increased significantly. Ten years ago it
would have been difficult to predict some of these changes - Bill
Gates programming global health rather than software; NGOs formally
governing a US$20 billion health fund; WHO convening a range of
partnerships; financial markets launching bonds to support
vaccines. This volume assesses the range of innovative partnerships
which are now near the heart of health diplomacy. It then describes
the negotiations to integrate new players into development, which
has changed health governance at global and country level. The
chapters represent unique and concrete perspectives on these issues
- from activists, private sector, country ministers of health,
district health workers, multilaterals and those working in these
partnerships - from the global right down to the community level.
What if you had the chance to re-imagine your past?
Every night, Marc Laurent, an American taken hostage in Pakistan, is bound and blindfolded. And every night, a woman he knows only as Josephine comes to visit him. At first, her questions are mercenary: who will pay for his release? But when Marc can offer no name, she asks him an even more difficult question: why didn't he go home for his daughter's funeral?
So begins a strange and yet comforting nightly ritual. Josephine tells Marc stories about what might have happened had Claire not been murdered. In turn, Marc begins to tell his own, in which his daughter is still alive. Soon, neither Marc nor Josephine are sure which stories are true and which are imagined, or even if it matters. And as they unfold – on a journey across America, into the past, and into a future that may never come – father and daughter start to find their way toward understanding each other once again.
Lyrical, seductive and utterly compelling, Daniel Lowe's debut novel All That's Left To Tell is a story of second chances and the stories we tell to make sense of ourselves.
The art of meaningful living, poses the soul revealing question:
How can I give meaning to several life issues and grow into a more
mature stance in life? What is the driving force for a purposeful
life? How can I discover significance in marriage, relationships,
family life, crises, the discriminating complexities of society and
the spiritual battle against despair and anxiety?
