Para la elaboracion de discursos de identidad algunos autores latinoamericanos recurrieron a la interpretacion que hizo Friedrich Nietzsche acerca del mito de Dionisos. La presente investigacion pregunta por el sentido de dicha recepcion en el marco de sociedades latinoamericanas abocadas a procesos de modernizacion. El autor llega a la conclusion de que contribuyo a la secularizacion de discursos latinoamericanos de identidad. Desde las implicaciones filosoficas, sociales y culturales que supone la relacion mito-modernidad latinoamericana, se analiza la presencia del Dionisos de Nietzsche en discursos de identidad que fueron elaborados por ocho autores en el siglo XX: Jose Enrique Rodo, Jose Vasconcelos, Jose Carlos Mariategui, Bolivar Echeverria, Miguel Serrano, Enrique Dussel, Arturo Andres Roig y Martin Hopenhayn. La investigacion, ademas, se enriquece con una presentacion inicial sobre el Dionisos de Nietzsche en su obra y el posterior comentario de autores europeos: Alfred Baumler, Alfred Rosenberg, Ernst Bloch, Horkheimer y Adorno, George Lukacs, Jurgen Habermas, Gilles Deleuze y Michel Foucault.
