No sooner does he violate his parole that he's travelling around the country gathering people for his next big schemes: to rob three casino's owned by the ever ruthless Terry Benedict. With the aid of a right hand man named Dusty, a thief out of retirement, a pickpocket, a card dealer, a surveillance man, a Chinese acrobat, an explosives expert, two frontmen, and a bitter casino mogul, they make up Ocean's eleven, out to make one very score.

"A sprightly, critical and intelligent guided tour around the
mansion of media and communications/cultural research... enormously
useful for students and researchers." - James Curran, Goldsmiths,
University of London "A highly comprehensive guide to core concepts
in media theory and criticism." - Andrew Goodwin, University of San
Francisco "A great resource for new under-grads and something I
urge my students to buy and use as a hand first 'port of call'
throughout their studies." - Paul Smith, De Montfort University
This book covers the key concepts central to understanding recent
developments in media and communications studies. Wide-ranging in
scope and accessible in style it sets out a useful, clear map of
the important theories, methods and debates. The entries critically
explore the limits of a key concept as much as the traditions that
define it. They include clear definitions, are introduced within
the wider context of the field and each one: is fully
cross-referenced is appropriately illustrated with examples, tables
and diagrams provides a guide to further reading. This book is an
essential resource for students of media and communications across
sociology, cultural studies, creative industries and of course,
media and communications courses.
The post of Station Master, like others on the modern railway, has
disappeared, and details of the many and varied responsibilities
and everyday jobs that went with it will disappear too if they are
not recorded. David Holmes became an SM in the 1960s, so is
eminently qualified to describe the development and duties of this
once very prestigious grade.
A critical introduction to the Troubled Families Programme (TFP),
this book explores the roots, significance and effectiveness of
troubled family approaches in social work. An important strand of
government social policy, the TFP gives rise to a number of ethical
and political questions about assertive outreach, choice, use of
power and eliding the structural inequalities which, it is often
argued, largely account for the difficulties troubled families
face. Social Work with Troubled Families: A Critical Introduction
debates these issues, offers an examination of the systemic
framework which underpins it and looks at the initiative in a
broader context. This interdisciplinary study will be an important
resource for social workers, social work students, practice
educators and academics for its examination of practice methods. As
an exploration of social policy it will appeal to social scientists
and to policy makers along with those who seek to influence them.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th
International Workshop on Augmented Environments for
Computer-Assisted Interventions, held in conjunction with MICCAI
2014, in Boston, MA, USA in September 2014. The 15 revised full
papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 23
submissions. The scope of the workshop spans the theoretical and
practical aspects of augmented reality and visualization computer
assisted intervention, interventional imaging, image-guided
robotics, image-guided intervention, surgical planning and
simulation, systematic extra- and intra-corporeal imaging
modalities, general biological and neuroscience image computing,
patient specific modeling, and medical image understanding.
`This is a very clear and concise summary of media studies, present
and future. There is no other book that can both be used as a
teaching tool and can help scholars organize their thinking about
new media as this book can' - Steve Jones, University of Chicago
This book offers an introduction to communication theory that is
appropriate to our post-broadcast, interactive, media environment.
The author contrasts the `first media age' of broadcast with the
`second media age' of interactivity. Communication Theory argues
that the different kinds of communication dynamics found in
cyberspace demand a reassessment of the methodologies used to
explore media, as well as new understandings of the concepts of
interaction and community (virtual communities and broadcast
communities). The media are examined not simply in terms of
content, but also in terms of medium and network forms. Holmes also
explores the differences between analogue and digital cultures, and
between cyberspace and virtual reality. The book serves both as an
upper level textbook for New Media courses and a good general guide
to understanding the sociological complexities of the modern
communications environment.
Practical skills form the cornerstone of chemistry. However, the
diversity of skills required in the laboratory means that a
student's experience may be limited. While some techniques do
require specific skills, many of them are transferable generic
skills that are required throughout the subject area. Limited time
constraints of the modern curriculum often preclude or minimise
laboratory time. Practical Skills in Chemistry 3rd edition provides
a general guidance for use in and out of practical sessions,
covering a range of techniques from the basic to the more advanced.
This 'one-stop' text will guide you through the wide range of
practical, analytical and data handling skills that you will need
during your studies. It will also give you a solid grounding in
wider transferable skills such as teamwork, using information
technology, communicating information and study skills. This
edition has been enhanced and updated throughout to provide a
complete and easy-to-read guide to the developing skills required
from your first day through to graduation, further strengthening
its reputation as the practical resource for students of chemistry
and related discipline areas.
