As the world's youth population continues to grow and interact
globally in an instant through blogging, texting, and social
networking, youth ministry is adapting in equal fashion. Authors
Terry Linhart and David Livermore offer advice that's substantiated
by more than twenty prominent worldwide youth leaders: be prepared.
Global Youth Ministry is the first textbook to recognize the
phenomenon of global youth ministry and to coordinate leading youth
ministry voices in a discussion of the theological, theoretical,
sociocultural, and historical issues that shape ministries around
the world. Traditionally, students of international youth
ministries have had to wade through a range of sources,
perspectives, and agendas. This versatile text distills all that,
and focuses on real-world experiences, challenges, and issues that
are part of international ministries. This book is essential
reading for undergraduate and graduate-level students and youth
ministry leaders who have a heart for missions, social awareness
and spiritual empathy, and a desire to serve young people around
the world.
Riccardo Chailly leads the Chor de la Generalitat Valencia and the
Orchestra de la Comunitat Valencia in Davide Livermore's energetic
production of Puccini's opera, recorded at the Palau De Les Arts
Reina Sofia in December 2012. The soloists include Gal James,
Aquiles Machado, Carmen Romeu and Massimo Cavalletti.
One of the very few contemporary operas being staged in Italy,
Mosca's work incorporates Shakespearean tragedies and comedies set
in the Veneto, namely 'Othello', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'The Merchant
of Venice' and 'Two Gentlemen of Verona'. Shakespeare himself
appears as a character in the opera, along with characters from
Goldini's plays and Mozart's Despina. This recording, commissioned
by the Teatro La Fenice, celebrates the 300th anniversary of
Venetian playwright and librettist Carlo Goldini. Pierluigi
Melega's libretto is written in English, a language which offers
greater opportunity for plays on words and whose rhythmic nature
better suits Mosca's music.
A premiere recording of Rossini's first opera, performed live at
the Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro in 2010. Stage director Davide
Livermore's production turns the original libretto, a tale of
feuding kings, mistaken identities, and cruel fates, into a ghost
story, with the action taking place behind the stage of an opera
house where everone has left and only spirits remain. Corrado
Rovaris conducts the Orchestra Sinfonica Gioachino Rossini, while
the performers include María José Moreno, Victoria Zaytseva, Yijie
Shi and Mirco Palazzi.
While missions used to be the territory of experts and missionary
professionals, globalization has made the issues and needs of our
world accessible to average Americans. Many American Christians
feel overwhelmed by the scope of the brokenness in the world and
conclude all they can do is go on with their lives. Others respond
by giving and praying, and still others want to do more. What Can I
Do shows that global mission is something we all can be part of in
tangible ways. And while that might include going on a short term
mission trip or providing financial support, there are many more
ongoing and holistic forms of engagement. This book helps readers
see that the roles they already have---business leader, scientist,
teacher, student, parent, or neighbor---can provide ways to engage
in global mission. Mission is what we were created to do. It
includes evangelistically calling people to follow Jesus wherever
we go, whatever we do. But it s more than that. This book will help
us explore the way our ordinary, everyday tasks of work and life
can be part of God s mission to heal a broken world."
