Collection of four comedies following the Griswold family's vacations. In 'National Lampoon's European Vacation' (1985), the family win a holiday to Europe. Contrary to their expectations, however, it is not a luxurious, all-expenses-paid kind of trip, but rather a cut-price, economy deal which takes them to some of the Old World's seedier locations. Of course, it's not long before they are caught up in all manner of misadventures. In 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation' (1989), the Griswolds decide to spend the Christmas season at home. Martin Scorsese directs this classic American romantic drama. When her husband is killed in a car crash, Alice (Ellen Burstyn) leaves her home in Socorro, New Mexico and heads west with her son Tommy (Alfred Lutter), determined to return to her home town of Monterey in California and make her own way in life as an independent woman. In order to reach Monterey however, Alice will have to stop off along the way to make enough money for her and Tommy to survive. Using the only talent she has, she plans to take singing gigs wherever possible. They stop in Arizona and Alice ends up having to work as a waitress in a diner while Tommy is largely left to fend for himself as his mum lapses back into old habits, relying on men to give her fulfilment. The cast also includes Harvey Keitel and Jodie Foster.

Joel Hershman writes and directs this cult American comedy. Spoiled heiress Twinkle (Sean Young) catches Bud (Max Parrish) stealing from her rich parents. Rather than stop him she aids him on the condition that he travels with her to Las Vegas and marries her. However, even with a gun to his head at the altar, Bud is unable to say 'I do' and a struggle occurs in which the gun goes off. Believing that he has killed Twinkle, Bud flees to California with two hundred thousand dollars of stolen cash. On his journey west, he meets a sex-addicted stripper called Sabra (Andrea Naschak) and her younger sister Dannie (Adrienne Shelly) and together they hide out from the pursuing law...

David Lynch drama. Lynch breaks a long silence with a challenging piece of cinema about an actress going through some psychological trauma on the set of her latest film. Laura Dern plays Nikki Grace - an ingénue actress whose latest role - in a Tennessee Williams-esque fright of a film tests her to her limits. The director Kingsley Stewart (Jeremy Irons) is a cloying, creepy character. Grace is falling for her co-star Devon Berk (Justin Theroux) but if that was the central plot, this wouldn't be Lynch-land, would it? A parallel storyline shows an earlier attempt to make this film in Poland which ended in tragedy when the two lead players were offed. It's just shy of three hours of David Lynch at his eccentric, unpredictable best.

The entire Seventies miniseries adaptation of Anne Sewell's classic novel is brought together here on two tapes. Black Beauty is a fine, handsome horse who goes through many trials and tribulations at the hand of cruel or neglectful masters. Although mistreated, Beauty is always loyal and faithful, and eventually finds his reward when he is taken in by kindly owners who are appreciative of his noble spirit.

One of the seminal American films of the 1970s, Roman Polanski's detective yarn sees murder and scandal emerge from the drought of 1930s Southern California. Private eye Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson) is hired to follow water commissioner Hollis Mulwray (Darrell Zwerling), only to see him turn up dead at the bottom of a reservoir. Realising he has been used, Gittes confronts Mulwray's widow, Evelyn (Faye Dunaway), a woman who seems to have plenty of secrets of her own, not least her ambiguous relationship with her father, Noah Cross (John Huston).

An FBI agent engages in a battle of minds with a woman she suspects of multiple murders in this thriller from director Bob Rafelson. Investigator Alexandra Barnes (Debra Winger) becomes obsessed with proving glamorous socialite Catharine Petersen (Theresa Russell) is a murderess responsible for the deaths of several millionaires who died suspiciously soon after marrying. Believing her to have assumed a new identity each time, Agent Barnes sets out to prove her suspicions are true, but soon finds that she too is falling under the Black Widow's spell.

Ashley Judd stars in this drama about a headstrong young woman's search for meaning and self-worth in her life. Lucy Fowler (Judd) is a contractor for a construction firm run by Owen Allen (Stacy Keach). In between caring for her reclusive alcoholic father (Scott Wilson) and spending time with her family - grandmothers Doll (Candyce Hinkle) and Nana (Diane Ladd) and uncle Tim (Tim Blake Nelson) - Lucy spends her weekends getting drunk in the local bar and sleeping with anonymous men. When she meets Cal Percell (Jeffrey Donovan), the new guy in town, it seems that Lucy might finally have found fulfilment, but it soon becomes apparent that she still has demons to confront.

When she is discovered the next morning by the apartment's official resident, aspiring actress Betty Elms (Naomi Watts), she confesses that she neither knows who she is nor what happened to her. The two women then begin to investigate, and it gradually becomes clear that they have known each other in the past. Meanwhile, a young film director (Justin Theroux) finds that the mob are taking an unusual interest in the casting of his latest film. Finally, in 'Inland Empire' (2006), Laura Dern plays Nikki Grace, an ingenue actress whose latest role in a Tennessee Williams-esque fright of a film tests her to her limits.
