Introduction to the Updated Expanded Edition With the feedback from our readers we expanded our first edition's content. We have fixed the few errors and rare factual inaccuracies we had found. Several readers asked that we look at and make meaning about more of their songs. We have done that with three (see next page): 'Question, ' 'New Horizons, ' and 'I'm just a singer' (in a R&R band). Just after completing this book we went on their first "Moodies Cruise" and now include a summary of our experience there. We obtained the new Timeless Flight box set that was released three months after this book and listened to the CDs and watched its DVD video material. We also read their extensive accompanying "coffee table" sized book. We have read the many online comments on this box set and have included a relevant few of them in our 7 page review of this large box set. This is a landmark book by two long-time Moody Blues fans. In this book we examine and bring to light the music and message of this great band of poets and musicians who have produced hit music for almost 50 years Here's a little on what our book is about and the areas that we explore: How they are unique among bands and music groups What critics and others have said The nature of their musical magic and message How the Moodies' words and music work, song by song Using 7 levels of listening to their music Why listening to their music raises our consciousness How their fans have listened consistently for so long Why they have excelled for nearly ve decades From the Foreword by Moody Blues co-founder, keyboardist and vocalist Mike Pinder "It was very interesting to read Charles and Barbara Whitfield's interpretations of our music and message. They suggest clear and useful ideas and ways for those who are newly exploring our music and for the many who have been on this journey with us from the beginning. I have always been interested in the broader qualities of music to inform, heal, raise consciousness and uplift. This was often on my mind when I wrote a song or painted the backdrop for others in the band with counter melodies and my Mellotron. In contrast to most observers of our music, I saw how the authors here delve below the surface and give us an enjoyable interpretation of our words and music. They examine essentially their every aspect. Not only do they address our lyrics from a scholarly and poetic perspective, but they offer us some insightful and sometimes surprising interpretations of them beyond what many listeners and fans may consider. Music has changed our world. It has the potential for reaching within, opening our minds and our hearts to the power of Universal Love. It transforms, strengthens, relaxes, teaches and enlightens us. The Whitfields realize these truths and give us a strong base from which to experientially understand them. They integrate the many positive messages of our words and music by giving us a clear and constructive map of healing that is on the cutting edge of psychology, consciousness studies and spirituality. Memories are also closely associated with music. I have always thought that we hang our memories on the shape of sound. With memorable melodies, counter melodies and instrumentation we were able to create soundscapes for many to hang the best memories of their lives. Those of us who remember the 1960s and beyond will appreciate their attention to the detail of our works and the history of how it all came about. They show us how the Moodies have expressed, preserved and continue to remind us of the message and wisdom of the 60s by keeping it so alive. And how there was a natural spirituality that still lives in all of us and that is manifested in our descriptions of Love."
In this techno-terrorist action thriller Robert Mallory Hershey named his restaurant and bar on the Jersey Shore The Dirty Turban because it was the most offensive name he could get a permit for. Forced to resign from a storied law-enforcement career in the face of racial profiling charges, Hershey would eventually be vindicated when the men he was accused of profiling turned out to be members of Al-Qaeda. The Congressional hearings that eventually lead to his resignation thrust Hershey into the national political spotlight. He used his fame to make his case. He didn't pull his punches. But Al-Qaeda perceived Hershey as weak. They felt he could easily be manipulated. They believed they could use him as part of a new terror initiative and by kidnapping his wife, get him to betray his country to further their cause. They were wrong. The Dirty Turban is not a political statement. It is a story about a man, who, when pushed to his limits, took matters into his own hands, and did what was necessary to protect his family. This techno-terrorist action thriller is in the same genre as The Fifth Horseman and The Sum of All Fears. If you like Clancy, Brown or Crichton then you will love The Dirty Turban.
Victim To Survivor and Thriver: Carole's StoryHope for survivors of childhood trauma, abuse or neglect.By Barbara Harris WhitfieldCarole was a victim of repeated child abuse. Her story demonstrates the deep healing that is possible with knowledge, the courage to face buried pain, and the love of safe others. Her riveting true story is intertwined with my life and that of my husband Charles Whitfield, MD (author of the bestselling Healing the Child Within). This is our story, too, of walking together with Carole along her path of recovery. As you read, you will learn how Carole transformed her suffering and loss, a "less-than" life-- into joy for living and even serenity. This is not a fictional account, nor has it been scrubbed clean of the horrors of living with childhood abuse and neglect. In fact, Carole's story contains a depth of sadness that only the adults that were repeatedly abused as children may understand. Carole broke through --awoke-- to find joy and laughter mixed with the tears of her realizations and she turned them into strength, hope, confidence and finally peace. This story of triumph over abuse is for all victims and those who care for them; clinicians as well as loved ones. This story demonstrates that: 1) When we think of ourselves as "victims" we believe we are "depressed."2) When we enter into our own healing process, we become "survivors" and experience the bittersweet movement of our emotional pain.3) Finally, with the support of safe others --we become "Thrivers" and live without fear. We become fully awake and alive. We discover who we really are and we find serenity. In this story I share my experiences and research into Near-Death Experiences. Charles Whitfield brings to bear his knowledge and experience with healing childhood trauma. And then the reader can witness Carole sopping up our knowledge and love like a sponge. So may you. Quotes from Carole's Story: "The thunderstorms are just as beautiful as a sunny day. And so is life ""Carole's story is beautiful and contains thunderstorms and sunny days --and they are all framed with the courage and love we shared " This book includes the latest research from the Centers for Disease Control on the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) Study. It was reviewed by former victims who have experienced the movement of survivorship and then the transcendence to Thrivership. If you or someone you know has gone through repeated abuse or trauma of any kind, then this powerful story may bring what you have longed for -- a way to heal, a way out of suffering, and the knowledge that you are not alone.www.barbarawhitfield.com
The Empire we live under is crumbling. Its foundations are collapsing. The source of new and unique ideas that once seemed plentiful are now exhausted. However, there remains buried deep within, a sign or a signal that offers another way. This sign is found in the earliest creation myths. The time of this sign is arriving...and it is growing stronger and bolder, appearing, perhaps, as a self-fulfilling prophecy. We can see it now; we can identify it all around us...and it has only one requirement: the good taste to perceive it. Drawing upon well-known, and sometimes obscure cultural and mythological references, author Charles T. Laffoday weaves a tale of the appearance of this sign in society. His characters are at once familiar and strange. They turn out to be the keepers of our culture and of truly unique ideas. More importantly, these guardians are all around us now... "A romp through undulating cultural and personal landscapes that are at the same time, lyrical and plain, frightening and comforting, familiar and strange, painful and soothing. It is psychedelia meets the modern age. Don't miss this book " Donald Brennan YakRider Media
Psychiatry today is not as advertised, as bestselling author Charles Whitfield describes in this scientifically accurate new book. It exposes the pseudo science behind modern biological psychiatry that misdiagnoses people who have painful emotional, psychological and behavioral symptoms as being mentally ill and then mistreats them with toxic psychiatric drugs that don t work well or make them worse. Dr Whitfield blows the whistle on and names the culprits that promote bio-psychiatry for profit and control and explains why and how to avoid their mind- and body- manipulations. Most of these culprits are the Bigs, which include Big Pharma, Big Government, Big Insurance, Big Academia and Big Professional groups (as the American Psychiatric Association, American Medical Association and the National Alliance on Mental Illness). Each of the Bigs promotes and supports the misdiagnosis and mistreatment of what they call mental illness, which Dr Whitfield documents is instead the painful effects of repeated childhood and later trauma, which he explains in some detail. Throughout he describes how this major problem has developed and how to heal from it.
