Thresholds in Geomorphology - Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium 9 (Paperback): Donald R. Coates, John D. Vitek Thresholds in Geomorphology - Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium 9 (Paperback)
Donald R. Coates, John D. Vitek
R1,511 Discovery Miles 15 110 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book, first published in 1980, is a timely and comprehensive appraisal of thresholds in geomorphology. The papers, arising from the 9th Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium, form the cornerstone of a subject that is increasingly important in geomorphology. This book analyses the historical background to thresholds and geomorphology, as well as fluvial landforms, hydrogeologic regimes and other processes, and the impact of man.

Coastal Geomorphology - Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium 3 (Paperback): Donald R. Coates Coastal Geomorphology - Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium 3 (Paperback)
Donald R. Coates
R1,138 Discovery Miles 11 380 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book, first published in 1973, presents the papers from the 3rd Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium. The necessity for interdisciplinary cooperation in research on the processes and terrain of the littoral zone is reflected here, and the central theme that emerges from all papers is the dynamic aspect of the coastal environment, and the way geomorphic principles can be used to solve problems.

Geomorphology and Engineering - Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium 7 (Paperback): Donald R. Coates Geomorphology and Engineering - Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium 7 (Paperback)
Donald R. Coates
R1,134 Discovery Miles 11 340 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Whether the project is river engineering, soil mapping for landuse planning, or control of landslides, this volume, first published in 1976, illustrates that the professional partnership between geomorphology and engineering can significantly minimize environmental damage. The papers here were presented at the 7th Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium, and using the broad viewpoint of the planner, much new ground is covered: landfill design, prediction of geomorphic processes and their effects, and minimization of streamflow distortion.

Environmental Geomorphology and Landscape Conservation - Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium 1 (Paperback): Donald R. Coates Environmental Geomorphology and Landscape Conservation - Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium 1 (Paperback)
Donald R. Coates
R1,150 Discovery Miles 11 500 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book, first published in 1973, focuses on non-urban terrain, and presents a uniquely balanced historical treatment of both the land degradation induced by man and his efforts at conservation, preservation and reclamation.

Glacial Geomorphology - A proceedings volume of the Fifth Annual Geomorphology Symposia Series, held at Binghamton New York September 26-28, 1974 (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1982)
Donald R. Coates
R3,040 Discovery Miles 30 400 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This proceedings volume is the fifth in our continuing publication series that result from the annual geomorphology symposiums conducted in the Department of Geological Sciences, State University of New York at Binghamton. The First proceedings Environmental Geomorphology spoke to an emerging Geld that is becoming ever more popular and necessary in today's complex world. The Second proceedings, Quantitative Geomorphology, again cross-cut many of the geomorphic subdisciplines and united them with one of the most important methodologies of the science. The Third and Fourth proceedings, Coastal Geomorphology and Fluvial Geomorphology, zeroed in on analysis of the special processes that comprise the fundamental building blocks of geomorphic research. The present volume continues this trend ht showing how the dynamic processes associated with glaciation transform the landscape. There are many different avenues for expression of scientific ideas, but the knowledge and publication explosion creates hardships for those who attempt to keep in tune with their specialties. It is not our purpose to add an unnecessary burden to this verbage increase. Instead we feel there comes a time when reassessment of the vital fabric of geomorphology is necessary and where geomorphologists can gather as a group to share their newest ideas. The more than 300 participants who have been attending these yearly symposia attest that this type of event helps fi11 a communications gap.
