This book introduces aquaculture ecology as a science of the
interaction between commercial aquatic organisms as well as their
farming activities and the environment, including the rationales of
building and management of aquaculture systems. This book covers
productivity and carrying capacity, effects of cyclical fluctuation
of environmental factors on aquatic organisms, biological control
of water quality, structural optimization of aquaculture systems
and ecological prevention of disease. In the last chapter,
aquaculture production systems are introduced from multiple
perspectives. This book has been designed to provide a stimulating
and informative text for researchers in aquaculture, fisheries as
well as hydrobiology.
Presents the state of the art in conductive composite materials and
their application in flexible strain sensors Uniquely combines the
processing, structure, properties, and applications of conductive
polymer composites Integrates theory and practice Benefits plastics
converters who wish to take full advantage of the potential of
conductive plastic materials
Pioneered by the pharmaceutical industry and adapted for the
purposes of materials science and engineering, the combinatorial
method is now widely considered a watershed in the accelerated
discovery, development, and optimization of new materials.
Combinatorial Materials Synthesis reveals the gears behind
combinatorial materials chemistry and thin-film technology, and
discusses the prime techniques involved in synthesis and property
determination for experimentation with a variety of materials.
Funneling historic innovations into one source, the book explores
core approaches to synthesis and rapid characterization techniques
for work with combinatorial materials libraries.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First
International Workshop on Multiscale Multimodal Medical Imaging,
MMMI 2019, held in conjunction with MICCAI 2019 in Shenzhen, China,
in October 2019. The 13 papers presented were carefully reviewed
and selected from 18 submissions. The MMMI workshop aims to advance
the state of the art in multi-scale multi-modal medical imaging,
including algorithm development, implementation of methodology, and
experimental studies. The papers focus on medical image analysis
and machine learning, especially on machine learning methods for
data fusion and multi-score learning.
In subsea processing systems, oil industry increasingly demands
accurate and stable continuous measurement of the percent water in
crude oil production streams (watercut) over the entire 0 to 100%
range. Differential Dielectric Sensors (DDS) have been developed as
independent tools connected with multiphase meters for process
management and composition measurement. DDS is unique in its use of
very low noise and high sensitivity differential measurements
between two identical sensors and the use of physics based models
for multiphase flow characterization. Existing watercut tools
predominantly depend on empirical data and correlations that are
sensitive to fluid properties and therefore are limited in their
general applicability. The main objective of this work is to
develop appropriate mathematical models for the sensor. Finite
Element Analysis (FEA) and experimental investigations have been
conducted to validate the sensor analytical models. This study
provides the scientists and engineers a powerful tool for process
management and control in the oil industry.
