Eric Roman is the first scholar to be granted access to the vast, heretofore closed, archive of documents relating to the communist era in Hungary. This archive included the files of the Hungarian Communist Party, the Social Democratic Party and the Hungarian Socialist Worker's Party, as well as minutes of political committee meetings, private correspondence, secret papers and confidential reports on special commissions within Hungary. Skilfully using all this material, Eric Roman weaves a fascinating portrait of Hungary in the post-war period. As the country began to reconstruct itself after the War, Roman shows the toll taken by poverty and racial discord. In what amounts to the only complete English-language account of Hungary's diplomatic policy, Hungary and the Victor Powers takes an in-depth look at Hungary's relationship with those countries nearest to it, especially the former Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union. Eric Roman's Hungary and the Victor Powers, 1945-1950 is a compelling work of history that is destined to be one of the most important books on the topic.

The first book-length study of Horace Walpole’s scandalous The Mysterious Mother, including critical essays, an abridged script, and a facsimile edition Horace Walpole’s five-act tragedy The Mysterious Mother (1768), a sensational tale of incest and intrigue, was initially circulated only among the author’s friends. Walpole never permitted it to be performed during his lifetime except as a private theatrical. He described his play as a “delicious entertainment for the closet” and claimed that he “did not think it would do for the stage.” Yet the essays in this volume trace a history of private readings, amateur theatricals, and even early public performances, demonstrating that the play was read and performed more than Walpole’s protests suggest. Exploring a wide variety of topics—including the play’s crypto-Catholicism, its treatments of incest, guilt, motherhood, orphans, and scientific spectacle, and the complex relations between print and performance—the essays demonstrate the rich relevance of The Mysterious Mother to current critical discussions. The volume includes the proceedings of a mini-conference hosted at Yale University in 2018 on the occasion of a staged reading of the play. Also included are the director’s reflections, an abridged script, a facsimile of Walpole’s own copy of the full-length play, and reproductions of the illustrations he commissioned from Lady Diana Beauclerk.
Americans are continuously bombarded with deceptive truths, half-truths and lies about energy, the economy and the environment. Environmentalists, supported by persuasive scientific data and research, have successfully advocated the philosophy that unless America virtually abandons fossil fuels, global temperatures will continuously increase to the point Earth is no longer suitable for human life. In reality, pursuing the energy strategy advocated by environmentalists actually steers America into pointless energy austerity accomplishing little, if anything to combat global climate change. Energy austerity erodes the American economy to the point which the American economy no longer provides the opportunities for Americans to create better lives for themselves and their families. Without a strong, vibrant economy America can do very little to combat global climate change. A point that is clearly illustrated by the American government's own research, the results of which are not widely promoted but are readily available to anyone willing to take the time to search the government's records. 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' was written to present Americans with a concise assessment of America's energy options as well as the impact of various energy alternatives on America's economy and the World's environment. 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' is written from the perspective of what is in the best interest of most Americans, (i.e. middle class America). 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' clarifies the necessity of American voters to understand the importance of ignoring the letters D, R, C and L, (Democrat, Republican, Conservative and Liberal), and vote based political candidates' position on the single letter (E) for Energy, Economy, Environment, Education and Employment. 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' is carefully written without the influence of environmentalists, the energy industry, politicians or other special interest groups. 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' is composed to provide Americans clear insight how America must utilize all available natural energy resources augmented by newly evolving and exciting energy related technology which increases energy efficiency plus reducing the environmental impact of production and consumption of America's natural energy resources. 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' provides insight into the benefits and limitations of renewable and green energy options. 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' clearly illustrates what Americans can do to bring about an economy which will allow Americans to reclaim many of the jobs and opportunities which were lost to other countries. 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' identifies how Americans can motivate elected politicians to use energy for the creation of new jobs and opportunities for all Americans. 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' illuminates how Americans will create the economy essential to confront global climate change in an aggressive and effective manner. Any American wanting to really understand how important energy is for their future as well as the future of their children and generations to come, 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' is a must read. Nowhere else can an American invest so little money and time to learn so much about America's energy options. Nowhere else can Americans gain insight into the positive and negative implications of the many energy options available to America than in 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' If Americans really want to return jobs, opportunity and prosperity to America, 'Secure Our Ship Fuel America Now ' provides the road map for success.
