Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. It is the result of a long and patient inquiry into those mysterious phenomena which, from the earliest ages, have been found to be associated with human beings; but which either, on the one hand, have been regarded as the superstitions of the ignorant, or, on the other, have merely received a flippant explanation, or have been used as the materials of a mystical philosophy.
