Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

A rigorous analysis of the implications of leadership being seen literally or metaphorically as a performance. The book introduces a framework which examines the performance of leadership through the dimensions of enactment, narrative and audience, focusing throughout on the ways in which managers can apply these ideas in their own leadership.
The book presents a novel theory of how networks of organizations
work, what varieties are possible, and how their strengths and
weaknesses differ. The argument is illustrated using four case
studies in which networks of firms and organizations in defense
contracting, biotechnology, health care, and combating crime and
disorder are examined. The book will be of major interest to
scholars and students of business and management, public
management, public policy, and organizational sociology and
practicing managers as well.
A remarkable change has occurred in how we finance the public enterprise, yet this change has gone largely unnoticed by the general public. Policy makers in the federal, state and local levels of government have had to respond to this change. The causes of the change, future policy directions, and the eventual impact on society of this change is the subject of this book. Six of the nation's most influential economists, political scientists and sociologists have been asked to comment and their views can be found here.
Demand for water in agricultural, municipal, industrial, and environmental uses is growing. More frequent and severe extreme weather conditions now exacerbate water shortages in many locations and existing infrastructure to store and release water rarely has the capacity to both prevent floods during wet periods and meet demand during drought periods. Competition among sectors adds pressure not only on water infrastructure, but also on management policies and allocation institutions. This book of contributed chapters assesses the performance of existing infrastructure, institutions and policies under different climate variability scenarios. It also provides suggestions for minimizing conflict over scarce water resources. More flexible water-allocation institutions and management policies, and better tools for decision-making under uncertainty will be required to maximize society's net benefit from less reliable water resources. The chapters show how incentives for individuals to conserve water, and policies for helping vulnerable populations prepare for and recover from extreme events, will also need to be improved. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Natural Resources Policy Research.

Beyond Delivery sets out a critique of the mechanical ways in which some policy makers seek to exercise governance over the implementation of their policies. It offers a timely critique of the current British government's approach.

The authors consider various forms of non-normative educational pathways within the cultural contexts of Canada, England, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States of America. Rather than conducting cross-cultural comparisons of normative educational pathways, the authors focus on (a) identifying unexpected educational pathways across various ages using various analytic methods and (b) examining a wide range of factors that may promote, inhibit, or result from these diverse forms of educational progress. The results are intended to help researchers and policy-makers understand why some students who appear to be on promising educational pathways fail to succeed and why other students, who appear to be at risk for failure, nevertheless go on to negotiate successful educational pathways.
DESTINY is about two different cultures it deals with love, loss and fate and is a young adult romance novel that will appeal to everyone: fantasy readers, hopeless romantics as well as those who enjoy a good story and a happy ending. I urge my readers to read it. The story is set during the summer of 1989 on an exotic location in the Caribbean. It reveals the great emotional love story of a young woman, Sheena growing up in a protected family, who never thought that her life would change until she met dashing Jonathan Samson the male character a wealthy rich young man who shapes her dreams and captures her heart. Their brief but passionate love story is slowly threatened by their family's violent history that no-one knows why or when it all started. Sheena realizes that she has to be strong within herself, rely upon her own strengths and fight for everything that is good and important to her, and to those who she loves. I hope I have created strong characters that my readers will form a bond with, and they would want them to be happy and to succeed, and that they would want to know how the story unfolds. I hope that when they pick the book up, they are intrigued to learn about these characters, and each event; they are a part of by reading about it. They are encouraged to keep reading and keep learning to know what will happen next. I hope they will feel as though they know Sheena and Jalissa and Datilda, and all the other important characters within the book and that this story has made them feel as though they have been a part of these people's lives.
Donovan Research Library and the US Armor Research Library are now part of the Maneuver Center of Excellence Libraries Virtual Library program. For the past few years, both libraries have processed large parts of their historical collections of student papers, post newspapers, documents, yearbooks, and other materials to be digitized. The collections represent the intellectual talent of research and education that soldiers receive from the faculty, historians, and staff of the US Army Infantry School and US Army Armor School and its divisions. This collection contains personal experience papers and monographs describing combat operations, campaigns, and battle tactics from various wars and years in US History, including World War I, the Korean War, and Vietnam War. Some titles in this collection include: Operations of the 108th Infantry, 27th Division, in the British Offensive Towards Maubeuge, Mobile Riverine Force, and "The Training, Infiltration, and Operations or a North Vietnamese Soldier. This paper is part of this Infantry School Papers collection.

Allen Peck's WW I Letters Home tell of his patriotic volunteer service for the brand-new U.S. Army Air Service to fight for his country. Allen's American group was sent to France to be trained by and to fly with a French escadrille. The airplanes were small, flimsy, and slow, with open cockpits and no heat, and also no oxygen masks. For young pilots these were exciting, challenging, and for some, fatal months. Allen survived plane crashes, enemy planes shooting bullets through his cockpit, and enemy ground fire. A Croix de Guerre was earned for downing a German. But the trauma was great. After Armistice, he wrote of the tragic toll on his 'original gang', Twelve of us reached the front, seven gone, three wounded, one unheard from, and I was untouched. After November 11, his letters tell of experiences at a French university, of adventures at the American Embassy in London, and of helping with Inter-Allied Games. He fell in love with and married a young French girl. When his two-year enlistment was up, Allen chose at first to stay in Paris. But, after five months, he headed back home to America with his new wife, Marguerite.
