This book provides a unique resource on the educational
development of the American military profession. With nearly 140
entries from 65 authors, it covers the origins and major
evolutionary developments of all major institutions from the
Federal service academies and ROTC programs through the Capstone
program for newly appointed general and flag officers. It provides
sketches of personalities who made significant contributions as
well as discussions of important concepts influencing professional
military curricula, contentious issues affecting program
development, and significant academic practices.
Most entries include a brief list of principal sources and a
general bibliography is also provided. Simons introduces the
historical dictionary with a comprehensive essay that locates most
of the topics historically in relation to others.
This book draws attention to the issues of Indigenous justice and
reconciliation in Taiwan, exploring how Indigenous actors affirm
their rights through explicitly political and legal strategies, but
also through subtle forms of justice work in films, language
instruction, museums, and handicraft production. Taiwan's
Indigenous peoples have been colonized by successive external
regimes, mobilized into war for Imperial Japan, stigmatized as
primitive "mountain compatriots" in need of modernization, and
instrumentalized as proof of Taiwan's unique identity vis-a-vis
China. Taiwan's government now encapsulates them in democratic
institutions of indigeneity. This volume emphasizes that there is
new hope for real justice in an era in which states and Indigenous
peoples seek meaningful forms of reconciliation at all levels and
arenas of social life. The chapters, written by leading Indigenous,
Taiwanese, and international scholars in their respective fields,
examine concrete situations in which Indigenous peoples seek
justice and decolonization from the perspectives of territory and
sovereignty, social work and justice. Illustrating that there is
new hope for real justice in an era in which states and Indigenous
peoples seek meaningful forms of reconciliation, this book is an
invaluable resource for students and scholars of Taiwan Studies,
Indigenous Studies, and Social Justice Studies.
Hyponatremia is a common electrolyte disorder found in a variety of
settings. Manifestations range from subtle abnormalities to
convulsions and death. New treatment options, such as Antidiuretic
Hormone (ADH) antagonists, have created the need for a resource
presenting the latest evidence and clinical approaches.
Hyponatremia: Evaluation and Treatment is a comprehensive review of
hyponatremia, with an emphasis on managing this disorder from
diagnosis to treatment. The incidence and occurrence of acute and
chronic hyponatremia in general terms are covered, as well as
disorders of the central nervous system, heart and liver with their
relation to hyponatremia. Common clinical scenarios are presented
along with both traditional and new methods of treatment. Authored
by experts on this disorder from around the world, experienced
members of the medical community and trainees alike will find
Hyponatremia as an indispensible guide to diagnosis, managing and
treating patients with hyponatremia.

The Sediq and Truku Indigenous peoples on the mountainous island of
Formosa – today called Taiwan – say that their ancestors
emerged in the beginning of time from Pusu Qhuni, a tree-covered
boulder in the highlands. Living in the mountain forests, they
observed the sacred law of Gaya, seeking equilibrium with other
humans, the spirits, animals, and plants. They developed a politics
in which each community preserved its autonomy and sharing was
valued more highly than personal accumulation of goods or power.
These lifeworlds were shattered by colonialism, capitalist
development, and cultural imperialism in the twentieth century.
Based on two decades of ethnographic field research, Truly Human
portrays these peoples’ lifeworlds, teachings, political
struggles for recognition, and relations with non-human animals.
Taking seriously their ontological claims that Gaya offers moral
guidance to all humans, Scott E. Simon reflects on what this
particular form of Indigenous resurgence reveals about human
rights, sovereignty, and the good of all kind. Truly Human
contributes to a decolonizing anthropology at a time when all
humans need Indigenous land-based teachings more than ever.

Masking Unmasked is a basic guide to using the ancient art of acting with masks to develop character and movement in four sections that correspond to mask size: Full-Face Masks, Clowning, Bag Masks, and Half-Face Masks. Each section addresses fundamental acting principles and shows how the ancient technique can be applied to the contemporary stage. It is the perfect book to use as background to traditional, non-masked acting principles. Actors in masks experience the primary goal of acting because they are required to tap into profound physical, vocal, emotional, and psychological transformations in the course of creating a character. In addition, masking promotes honest, believable, and detailed work. Illustrated profusely throughout, the hands-on exercises developed by Eli Simon teach actors to shift cleanly between beats, execute moment-to-moment specificity, unleash creative impulses, take risks, and expand character range, power, and vulnerability. Masking Unmasked is a book of ancient acting techniques that are indispensable for the actor of today.
This book provides a comprehensive overview of the multitude of
different forms of thermotherapy in connection with aspects of
thermal physiology and cell biology. The aim is to elucidate the
scientific background of therapeutic actions and to promote
effective new applications at the beginning of the 21st century.
Significant to these purposes is cooperation between experts in the
fields of thermal biology, hyper thermic oncology, rheumatology,
and balneology, as represented by the editors. Emphasis has been
placed on a balanced choice of contributions, in the hope that this
will enable the reader to draw helpful connections between the
principles and prac tice of thermotherapy. It is apparent that a
wealth of published data exists concerning thermotherapy on the one
hand and thermal physiology on the other. However, in the former
field empirical aspects of therapeutic usefulness prevail, while in
the latter, aspects of basic science are in the foreground.
Accordingly, the sources where published data may be found are
quite different and as a consequence many findings of potential
mutual interest published in medical journals have gone unnoticed
by readers of physio logical journals, and vice versa. It is hoped
that this book will bridge the gap and encourage researchers'
efforts to integrate the available knowledge to attain optimal
coordination of clinical and theoretical aspects.

In
MeBwerkzeugfrage an vielen Stellen gestreift.
(Schmieden, Pressen, Stanzen, Ziehen, GieBen usw.) folgen sollten.
ZweckmaBige Ausfuhrung und verstandnisvolle An wendung der

wirtschaftlicher Fertigung, und die Vortragsreihe "Spanabhebende
