This book traces the emergence and development of the relationship
between management consultancies and the British state. It seeks to
answer three questions: why were management consultants brought
into the machinery of the state; how has state power been impacted
by bringing profit-seeking actors into the machinery of the state;
and how has the nature of management consultancy changed over time?
The book demonstrates the role consultants played in major
developments in the postwar period. Specific case studies
interrogate how consultancies influenced the policy fields of
health service reform and social security benefits. This book will
redefine debates amongst business historians and historians of the
postwar British state about the nature of management consultancy
and public sector reform.
Discover the Life-Changing Power of the PastA leader in the field
of past-life therapy and the author of Many Lives, Many Masters,
Dr. Weiss has helped thousands connect with their past lives and
experience tremendous healing. In Miracles Happen, Weiss, along
with his daughter, Amy, shares these remarkable real-life stories
to reveal how getting in touch with our past lives can improve our
current lives, further evolve our spiritual paths, and help us live
each day with greater purpose.
Management of Emerging Public Health Issues and Risks:
Multidisciplinary Approaches to the Changing Environment addresses
the threats facing the rapidly changing world and provides guidance
on how to manage risks to population health. Unlike conventional
and recognized risks (major, industrial, and natural), emerging
risks are characterized by low or non-existent scientific
knowledge, high levels of uncertainty, and different levels of
acceptability by the relevant authorities and exposed populations.
Emerging risk must be analyzed through multiple and crossed
approaches identifying the phenomenon linked to the emergence of
risk but also by combining scientific, policy and social data in
order to provide more enlightened decision making. Management of
Emerging Public Health Issues and Risks: Multidisciplinary
Approaches to the Changing Environment provides examples of
transdisciplinary approaches used to characterize, analyze, and
manage emerging risks. This book will be useful for public health
researchers, policy makers, and students as well as those working
in emergency management, risk management, security, environmental
health, nanomaterials, and food science.
Perhaps the most striking impression gained by a geologist during
twenty years of field work with deformed rocks in many parts of the
world is that the minor structures in these rocks are surprisingly
uniform in their properties and restricted in their variety. In
fact, a relatively short and simple list can include all structures
which are both of common occurrence and of use to the structural
geologist in his attempts to understand the structure and evolution
of a deformed geologic body. The photographs in this book have been
selected to illustrate as clearly as possible the obvious
characteristics of the common minor structures of deformed rocks. I
have tried to make this selection truly representative in spite of
two factors that have affected the choice. First, I have included
only photographs made during my own field work. No doubt the
selection could have been greatly improved in both quality and
variety by including photographs made by other geologists. Second,
the photographs necessarily reflect my own inte rests and not those
of every geologist concerned with deformed rocks. Consequently, for
example, great emphasis has been placed on folds, whereas faults
and joints are entirely omitted.

This fully documented guide helps readers grasp the essentials of planning and successfully managing three major types of catering operations: on-premise, off-premise, and mobile unit. The authors evaluate each type of operation according to operating needs, advantages, and disadvantages.

In a social context, body odours act as effective psycho-biological
signals modulating interpersonal interactions, but also as several
physiological processes. This new book presents current research in
the study of the biology, sources, olfaction and response to
odours. Topics discussed include the biology of insect odours; the
psychophysical, neurophysiological and neurobiological
investigation of olfactory processes in humans; odours in the
context of animal navigation and environmental odourants and
irritants and their health consequences.
Genetic Diagnosis of Endocrine Disorders, Second Edition provides
users with a comprehensive reference that is organized by endocrine
grouping (i.e., thyroid, pancreas, parathyroid, pituitary, adrenal,
and reproductive and bone), discussing the genetic and molecular
basis for the diagnosis of various disorders. The book emphasizes
the practical nature of diagnosing a disease, including which tests
should be done for the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus in adults and
children, which genes should be evaluated for subjects with
congenital hypothyroidism, which genetic tests should be ordered in
obese patients or for those with parathyroid carcinoma, and the
rationale behind testing for multiple endocrine neoplasias.

Physical anthropology is a branch of anthropology that studies the
mechanisms of biological evolution, genetic inheritance, human
adaptability and variation, primatology, primate morphology, and
the fossil record of human evolution. This book presents and
reviews data on physical anthropology, including such topics as:
sex determination of human skeletal and dental remains in
palaeodemographic reconstructions; age and sex differences in
aggregated and disaggregated upper limb osteoarthritis, muscle
marker, external metric, and cross-sectional variables of 131
prehistoric California Amerinds to determine asymmetry patterns; a
review of the variation in the angle of the femoral neck-shaft
angle and its relation to climatic adaptation; and others.
