English summary: The volume presents the first extensive investigation of friezes of the Palazzo Magnani. Thanks to essential archival research, a precise image of the patrons can be depicted and therefore the historical context of the work is illuminated, whose distinctive Roman theme indicates reverence for the papacy. In the center of the work, then, stands the analysis of the system of decorations as well as the number and content of the images, especially the references between text and image shaped by the literature on emblem depictions. German description: Der Band bietet die erste umfassende Untersuchung zum Magnani-Fries. Dank gruendlicher Archivstudien kann ein praziseres Bild des Auftraggebers gezeichnet und damit der historische Kontext des Werks beleuchtet wer den, dessen ausgepragt romisches Thema als Reverenz an den Papst zu deuten ist. Im Zentrum der Untersuchung stehen sodann die Analyse des Dekorationssystems sowie der Bilderzahlung, insbesondere der von der Emblemliteratur gepragten Bezuege zwischen Text und Bild.

English summary: The study investigate the reasons for this extraordinary career, which at the time of the Austrian Vice-regency (1707-1734) reached its highpoint. Colorful ceiling frescoes in the palaces of Viennese nobles' gives evidence of Solimena's wide-spread fame as much as his figure-rich decorations for the churches of Naples. For the first time these chief works are submitted to thorough analysis and against the background of new sources are understood as complex designs, which opens up a new view of the professional self-fashioning of Solimena. German description: Die Studie untersucht die Gruende fuer diese ausserordentliche Karriere, die zur Zeit des osterreichischen Vize regnums (1707-1734) ihren Hohe punkt erreichte. Farbprachtige Deckengemalde in den Wiener Adelspalasten zeugen ebenso von Solimenas weitreichendem Ruhm wie seine figurenreichen Freskendekorationen fuer die Kirchen Neapels. Erstmals werden diese Hauptwerke ausfuehrlichen Analysen unterzogen und vor dem Hintergrund neuer Quellen als vielschichtige Programmbilder entschluesselt.
