This book broadens the visioning on new care environments that are
designed to be inclusive, progressive, and convergent with the
needs of an aging population. The contents cover a range of
long-term care (LTC) settings in a single collection to address the
needs of a wide audience. Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic,
rethinking the spatial design of care facilities in order to
prepare for future respiratory and contagious pathogens is one of
the prime concerns across the globe, along with social
connectedness and autonomy in care settings. This book contributes
to the next generation of knowledge and understanding of the
growing field of the design of technology, programs, and
environments for LTC that are more effective in infection
prevention and control as well as social connectedness. To address
these issues, the chapters are organized in four sections: Part I:
Home- and community-based care; Part II: Facility-based care; Part
III: Memory care and end-of-life care; and Part IV: Evidence-based
applied projects and next steps. (Re)designing the Continuum of
Care for Older Adults: The Future of Long-Term Care Settings is an
essential resource for researchers, practitioners, educators,
policymakers, and students associated with LTC home and healthcare
settings. With diverse topics in theory, substantive issues, and
methods, the contributions from notable researchers and scholars
cover a range of innovative programming, environments, and
technologies which can impact the changing needs and support for
older adults and their families across the continuum of care.

There is increasing interest in young people's participation in the
design and delivery of health services. But young people's views
are not consistently sought or acknowledged, and they are still
often marginalised in healthcare encounters. Drawing on original
research and a diverse range of practice examples, Brady explores
the potential for inclusive and diverse approaches to young
people's participation in health services from the perspectives of
young people, health professionals and other practitioners. She
presents a practical new framework, embedded in children's rights,
that shows how young people's participation can be integrated into
services in ways that are meaningful, effective and sustainable.

Advances in audiovisual technology, most notably the advent of the
popular usage of digital technology in the last few years, have
altered the face of popular television. Thanks to cable, satellite
and now digital technology, television broadcasts can reach an
international audience. The reaction from cultural critics has been
mixed. As the debate concerning the effects of new
telecommunications and audiovisual technology continues unabated,
this book examines the underlying hypothesis that collective
allegiances are moving away from the national paradigm towards the
global/local model and provides a balanced appraisal of the
depiction of a select number of group identities on television in
Britain and France.

With lush art by NYT Best Illustrated recipient Violeta Lopiz, a
picture book about a boy and his larger-than-life immigrant
grandfather, who shares with him the kind of learning that's not
taught in classrooms. At six years old, the child-narrator of this
picture book loves nothing more than spending time with his
grandpa, Luis-especially in his marvelous garden, where green beans
reach as high as the sky. Luis's garden is where the little boy
practices reading and writing. But just as importantly, it's also
where he learns wonderful things from Luis, like the names of all
the birds in the trees and new expressions that are so much fun to
say. Luis's playful vocabulary is as vibrant and full of life as
his garden, and phrases that are particular to his way of talking,
like "at the drop of a cat" (which means right away), are soon
adapted into the little boy's lexicon, too. A talented cook,
artist, and gardener, Luis has much wisdom to impart and many
experiences to share with his grandson-even though, as a war
refugee, he never went to school himself and never learned to read
and write. A loving testament to the intergenerational transmission
of knowledge and the breathtaking beauty of the natural world,
illustrated with evocative, multilayered art by Violeta Lopiz.

If you are like many teen girls, you may feel pressure to be
"nice," rather than assert your opinions. You may even fear being
called "bossy" or "pushy" when speaking your mind or offering a
different point of view. But if you have ever stopped yourself from
expressing your opinion, you know how bad it can feel afterward.
Don't let yourself fall into that same trap over and over. Your
thoughts and feelings matter just as much as everyone else-you just
need to find your voice. Using techniques based in proven-effective
dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy
(CBT), this book will show you how to have positive interactions
with others, deal with difficult emotions that can arise from
bullying or dealing with "mean girls," and easy-to-use strategies
that will boost your self-esteem and confidence. You'll also
discover tons of assertive communication skills you can use every
day, including how to speak up when you are upset; asking for what
you want in a clear, assertive manner; and coping when intense
emotions threaten to take over and sabotage your relationships. In
the age of social media and texting, strong communication skills
are needed more than ever. This book will not only give you the
tools needed to speak up in everyday or difficult situations, but
it will also provide powerful advice for effectively communicating
in the digital world.
