This book provides a comprehensive analysis of public
administration in Finland. Many of the basic structures of Finnish
public administration have remained intact during the country’s
relatively short independence of 100 years, but Finland has been
able to tackle major turbulence ranging from wars and
financial crises to the Covid-19 pandemic. Finland has also had to
adjust to greater European integration, a new constitution, an
ageing population, increased globalization of markets, and climate
change. Chapters in this volume examine a wide range of themes
pertinent to Finnish public administration, including government,
regionalisation, health care policy, performance management,
budgeting, and higher education policy. Placing these themes within
the wider context of Nordic administrative developments, the book
showcases public administration in Finland as pragmatism in action.
It will appeal to students and scholars of public administration,
public management, public policy and Nordic studies.
The era of hybrid governance is here. More and more organizations
occupy a position between public and private ownership. And value
is created not through business or public interests alone, but
through distinct forms of hybrid governance. National governments
are looking to transform their administrative systems to become
more business driven. Likewise, private enterprises are seeing
value gains in promoting public interest in their corporate social
responsibility programs. But how can we conceptualize, evaluate and
measure the value and performance of hybrid governance and
organizations? This book offers a comprehensive overview of how
hybrids produce value. It explores the drivers, obstacles and
complications for value creation in different hybrid contexts:
state-owned enterprises, urban policy-making, universities and
non-profits from around the world. The authors address several
types of value contents, for instance financial, social and public
value. Furthermore, the book provides a novel way of understanding
multiple forms of doing value in hybrid settings. The book explains
mixing, compromising and legitimising as important mechanisms of
value creation. Aimed at researchers and students of public
management, public administration, business management, corporate
social responsibility and governance, this book provides a
theoretical, conceptual and empirical understanding of value
creation in hybrid organizations. It is also an invaluable overview
of performance evaluation and measurement systems and practices in
hybrid organizations and governance.
This book explores goal-oriented action and describes the variety
of options offered by strategic management in guiding public
organisations. The book is based on the idea that planning is only
one option in orienting the functioning of public organisations and
applies resource-based and network studies to the public sector.
Whilst most of the existing literature on strategic management
relates to local government, this book examines developments within
central governments and public agencies external to government
hierarchies. The book also addresses the strategic distinction
between politics and administration often neglected by existing
research, and illustrates the connection between goal setting and
actual performance of government organisations.

Intuitively, organisations can easily be categorised as 'public' or
'private'. However, this book questions such a black and white
dichotomy between public and private, and seeks a deeper
understanding of hybrid organisations. These organisations can be
found at micro, meso and macro levels of societal activity,
consisting of networks between companies, public agencies and other
entities. The line between these two realms is increasingly blurred
- giving rise to hybrid organisations. Governing Hybrid
Organisations presents an engaging discussion around hybrid
organisations, highlighting them as important and fascinating
examples of modern institutional diversity. Chapters examine the
changing landscape of service delivery and the nature and
governance of hybrid organisations, using international examples
and cases from different service contexts. The authors put forward
a clear analytical framework for understanding hybrid governance,
looking at strategy and performance management. This text will be
valuable for students of public management, public administration,
business management and organisational studies, and will also be
illuminating for practising managers.
Way More Than A Bed On Stilts is written for the person or family
who is living in a crowded living space. It shows them more options
to cope with their pressing needs, through creative and practical
furnishings. If a strategy of life improvement includes basic
needs, plus education, organization and discipline, we must
accommodate those continually. Of course we need a bed, but we also
need to store our clothes in a ready to wear condition. Yes, we
need education, but we also need a place to study and an organized
way to store and access our study materials. If we lack a clothes
closet, or bureau, or a desk, organized storage, or the space for
it, we handicap ourselves Way More Than A Bed On Stilts can help
people overcome these types of limitations. This book contains a
21st century loft bed design. When built and used as designed, it
is safe; it exceeds all applicable safety standards. Please read
those standards and evaluate for yourself. This loft bed design is
very durable. It won't become shaky in a year or two. The frame
should serve for many years. It can be disassembled and reassembled
repeatedly to accommodate moving. This loft bed system is
incredibly useful: it features multiple options for built in desks,
shelving, drawers and containers. It accommodates clothes storage,
books, files, supplies, games and lighting. The design is modular;
the accessory options fit together in several combinations. On top
of all this, more than one may fit in a room This system is
designed for most of the electronic accoutrements of modern life.
This is the 21st century. Way More Than A Bed On Stilts is a
do-it-yourself project. If you are at all handy, you can build
this, while saving money. The sample configuration loft bed with a
desk, bureau, and closet rod cost about the same as a comparable
size bureau alone (excluding the mattress of course). This is
do-able for many people. Just follow the instructions and choose
wisely. You can do it
