Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

The sine-Gordon model is a ubiquitous model of Mathematical Physics
with a wide range of applications extending from coupled torsion
pendula and Josephson junction arrays to gravitational and
high-energy physics models. The purpose of this book is to present
a summary of recent developments in this field, incorporating both
introductory background material, but also with a strong view
towards modern applications, recent experiments, developments
regarding the existence, stability, dynamics and asymptotics of
nonlinear waves that arise in the model. This book is of particular
interest to a wide range of researchers in this field, but serves
as an introductory text for young researchers and students
interested in the topic. The book consists of well-selected
thematic chapters on diverse mathematical and physical aspects of
the equation carefully chosen and assigned.
The theories of quantum fields and strings have had a fruitful
impact on certain exciting developments in mathematics and have
sparked mathematicians' interest in further understanding some of
the basic elements of these grand physical theories. This
self-contained text presents quantum mechanics from the point of
view of some computational examples with a mixture of mathematical
clarity often not found in texts offering only a purely physical
point of view. Emphasis is placed on the systematic application of
the Nikiforov--Uvarov theory of generalized hypergeometric
differential equations to solve the SchrAdinger equation and to
obtain the quantization of energies from a single unified point of
view. This theory is developed and is also used to give a uniform
approach to the theory of special functions. Additional key
features: * Considerable material is devoted to the foundations of
classical mechanics using conventional mathematical terminology *
The first 10 chapters of Part I cover Planck and SchrAdinger
quantization, Pauli's spin functions, and an introduction to
multielectron atoms * Part II treats such topics as Feynman path
integrals, quantum statistical partition functions, high and low
temperature asymptotics of quantum fields of over a negatively
curved space-time * Selected special topics involve some
applications of the theory of automorphic forms, zeta functions,
the Jacobi inversion formula, spherical harmonic analysis and the
Selberg trace formula * Excellent bibliography and index.
Communication between physicists and mathematicians requires
continual bridges to eliminate the divide. This monograph furthers
that goal in presenting some new and exciting applications
ofso-called pure mathematics, including number theory, to various
problems arising in physics. An excellent resource for classroom or
self-study.

Employment, Labour and Industrial Law in Australia provides a
comprehensive, current and accessible resource for the
undergraduate and Juris Doctor student. With a social and political
background to the law, this text provides insightful legal analysis
underscored by practical business experience, while exploring key
principles through a close evaluation of laws and lively discussion
of prominent cases. Recognising the multi-faceted nature of the
subject, the authors have included content on employment, labour
and industrial law in the one text, while also presenting critical
topics not often dealt with, namely: * current and in-depth
analysis of trade union regulation * public work including the
public sector, the judiciary and academics * workplace health and
safety including worker's compensation, bullying,
anti-discrimination and taxation * emerging issues including topics
such as transnational and international employment law, migration
and employment, as well as volunteers and work experience. To
maintain currency within this rapidly changing area of law, the
text has a website which will include updates for any major
developments in the field as well as responses to end-of-chapter
questions. Written by respected academics and practicing lawyers in
the field, this book is a relevant and contemporary guide to this
fascinating area of law.
Rather than standard textbooks, which are often written as expanded
outlines, A Trek through Texas Government is a textbook in
narrative form. This travel adventure tale allows readers to move
across geography and through time to learn about the history and
government of Texas. The story encompasses everything from a "tour"
of the capitol to exploring Texas iconography to concise
explanations of municipal, county, special district, and state-wide
governmental structure. Students learn the political and cultural
history of Texas, state demographics, special interests, and how
public moneys are raised and spent. In addition, A Trek through
Texas Government enables students to compare and contrast the
government of Texas with the federal government. Readers learn
about Federalism, The Constitution, federal laws that apply within
the state itself, and the rarely discussed presence of the foreign
governing entities within the state. Offering an engaging
alternative to traditional history and government texts, A Trek
through Texas Government is suitable for courses in the history,
government, and unique culture of the state.
