Francisco Lopez de Gomara (1511 - 1566), fue un eclesiastico e historiador espanol que destaco como cronista de la conquista espanola de Mexico, a pesar de que nunca atraveso el Atlantico. Aunque tampoco viajo al Nuevo Mundo, escribio muchas obras que se refieren a su conquista. Fue tambien un humanista que conocio a Hernan Cortes y se quedo en su casa como capellan, escuchando lo que decian todos aquellos que pasaban por dicha casa. La concepcion caudillista de Lopez de Gomara fue punto de partida para la vision distinta de Bernal Diaz del Castillo, en su Historia verdadera de la conquista de la Nueva Espana. El libro Historia General de las Indias recoge los relatos escuchados por el autor de boca de los que regresaban de America, y nos remonta a la epoca de la conquista del Nuevo Continente. Mas que una cronica exacta y cientifica de lo contado, el lector se enfrentara a una cosmovision muy especifica que retrata con entusiasmo la psicologia, las contradicciones y hasta las cambiantes creencias de una epoca como pocas en la historia humana.
