"Exit" is a fictional mystery that revolves around a character,
named Lee "Pookie" McAdoo, whose earliest memories of her bleak
past began while she and her brother were being driven to the town
of Alabaster, Alabama by their mother. In Alabaster, they move into
a poor neighborhood where their lives become entangled with
neighbors, church members, and the boy with whom Lee falls in love.
Without a high school education, Lee began her "Exit" out of
poverty by becoming a famous recording artist. Years later, Lee
returns to Alabaster and relives her past. But, she soon finds that
reliving her past is too intolerable and searches for her second
"EXIT" out of Alabaster. She must, however, solicit the help of a
past acquaintance who has also experienced her own disappointments
and tragedies. Can Lee persuade the acquaintance to lead her to the
correct "EXIT" when the acquaintance is searching for her own
"EXIT" .....?
