Water From A Toad is the fourth collection of poetry from Buffalo native Frederick E. Whitehead. His other collections include Orbs (2011), Songs, Cradle (2009) and Protected by Paradox (2010). His blog is fewhitehead.wordpress.com
From the Introduction by David Landrey: Reading All Sail, No Rudder, I feel as Hawthorne must have felt reading Moby-Dick; ..".eternity spread before him and the mysteries of life played out against its backdrop." Fred Whitehead's poems approach eternity again and again, seeking access, expressing wonderment at how our minds and spirits try to reach it, try and fail and try again. So many attempts, so many failures; yet the efforts are never in vain. Consider "the heron" rising in the dusk "as if she knew/exactly where the portal is"
Orbs is Buffalo native Fred Whitehead's third collection of poetry. It follows the 2009 release of Songs /Cradled, which is made up mostly of his song lyrics from his days in various bands and the 2010 release of Protected by Paradox. This is the second edition of Orbs. The first edition was available in 2011 in e-book form only. Fred currently hosts a poetry reading series in his South Buffalo neighborhood.
