Nach dem Prinzip des so genannten Demokratischen Zentralismus unterwarf die SED auch die Wissenschaften in der DDR ihrem Fuhrungsanspruch. Die Parteifunktionare waren jedoch den Fachdisziplinen gegenuber weitgehend orientierungslos geblieben, hatten ihnen nicht Fachvertreter als Wissenschaftler zugearbeitet. Dadurch eroeffneten sich den Fachvertretern erhebliche Einflussmoeglichkeiten auf die Partei, die bis hinauf in die hoechsten Fuhrungsgremien wirkten.
