Der Schopfer dieser "Grundlagen der Kokschemie" Professor 0 s k a r Simmersbach weilt nicht mehr unter den I ebenden; schon am 14. Dezember 1918 verschied er an einer Krankheit, die er sich in Bel gien zuzog, wo er als Berater der Reichs- und Heeresverwaltung wirkte. Aus dem Nachruf, den ihm der Verein Deutscher Eisenhut tenleute in "Stahl und Eisen" 1919 8. 139 widmete, seien hier einige Marksteine aus seinem Leben aufgestellt. Oskar Simmersbach wurde am 1. Juni 1872 zu Bad Rotheufelde Krs. Iburg als Sohn von Franz Simmersbach, dem nachmaligen Direktor des Kohlensyndikates, geboren. Nach Ablegung der Reifeprufung am Gymnasium zu Bochum widmete 0. Si m m er s b a c h zunachst ein halbes Jahr praktischer Tatigkeit; im Herbst 1891 bezog er die Technische Hochschule in Aachen und spater die Bergakademie in Berlin, wo er Eisenhuttenkunde stu dierte. Nach Abschluss seiner fachwissenschaftliehen Ausbildung stu dierte er noch ein Semester in Leipzig Wirtschaftswissenschaften und trat alsdann seine erste Stellung in der Praxis an der Mathildenhutte in Harzburg an. Bald darauf wurde er Hochofner an der Donners marckhutte in Oberschlesien. Noch nicht 27 Jahre alt, wurde 0. Sim m er s b a c h Direktor am Hochofenwerk von Fitzner & Garnper in Kramatorskaja in Sudrussland und ging ebenfalls als Direktor von hier zu den Pastuchowschen Huttenwerken in Sulin."
