"Ecosystem Services: Global Issues, Local Practices" covers
scientific input, socioeconomic considerations, and governance
issues on ecosystem services. This book provides hands-on
transdisciplinary reflections by administrators and sector
representatives involved in the ecosystem service community.
"Ecosystem Services" develops shared approaches and scientific
methods to achieve knowledge-based sustainable planning and
management of ecosystem services. Professionals engaged in
ecosystem service implementation have two options: de-emphasize the
ecological and socioeconomic complexity and advance in the
theoretical, abstract field, or try to develop research that is
policy relevant and inclusive in an uncertain environment. This
book provides a wide overview of issues at stake, of interest for
any professional wishing to develop a broader view on ecosystem
service science and practice.
Examines a broad scope of relevant issues to create common
understanding in the ecosystem services communityIncludes
contributions from several backgrounds, providing a broad,
multidisciplinary viewOffers recommendations to develop a thorough
understanding and management of ecosystem services based on tools
and research in larger territories as well as on local scales
The TFT-LCD has become a necessity of modern life. It is widely
used as a display in a wide range of electronic devices, including
personal computers (PCs), laptops, mobile phones, and televisions
(TVs). Most LCD panels are produced in East Asia. Japanese firms
were the first to commercialize liquid crystals in displays, but
the market dominance by Japan was short-lived. Korea and Taiwan
entered the market in the early 2000s and changed the dynamics of
the LCD industry. In the mid-2000s, China also joined the
tripartite battle for the huge consumer market. This book describes
how the LCD market formed in East Asia and how the players competed
and sometimes collaborated with each other, intentionally and
unintentionally, in the market. This book discusses the many
technological innovations that have occurred in this field and
helps to disseminate this information to a broad readership. It may
also provide perspective to companies or nations intending to
enter, or entering, emerging high-tech industries and aiming to
maintain their competitiveness, especially in industries with
cyclical consumer demand such as the LCD and semi-conductor ones.
In this book the authors examine the contribution of social
scientists to the topics of health and environment. They present
diverse perspectives on classical and contemporary debates by
focusing on social scientific framing of environment and health, as
well as on the potential contribution of social science to problem
solving strategies in these fields. They trace environment and
health debates to the classical scholars and examine the evolution
of contemporary academic disciplines concerned with health and
environment. Finally, they address current complex relationships
between human health and environmental problems, and between human
and non-human interests.
