Die seit Jahrzehnten renommierte Reihe zum romanistischen Nachwuchskolloquium Forum Junge Romanistik sammelt auch in ihrem 28. Band wieder die aktuellen Themen junger romanistischer Nachwuchsforschung. In ihrer Gesamtheit konstruieren die Beitrage ein offenes Bild zum zentralen Leitkonzept der Spur. Spurensuche als geisteswissenschaftliche Methode sowie die Implikationen zeitlicher und raumlicher Dimensionen bis hin zur emotiven Komponente des Spurenkonzeptes ordnen die vielschichtigen Forschungsergebnisse zu einem aufschlussreichen Kompendium neuester Forschungsliteratur. Die Diversitat der Tagungsakten lasst ein Panorama der romanistischen Disziplinen (Literatur-, Kultur-, Sprachwissenschaft und Fachdidaktik) entstehen.

This commemorative work on the 65th birthday of the Romance studies scholar Gunter Holtus compiles 67 essays by linguists and literary scholars from Europe, the USA and Latin America. The main areas of focus are variational linguistics and the history of linguistics, lexicography and lexicology, edition philology and research on scriptae, as well as Romance studies as a university discipline."

The study is dedicated to the exploration of the language employed in Old French official documents from the Luxembourg area. First, it provides an edition of all the original documents in Old French pertaining to the governments of Countess Ermesindes (1226-1247) and Count Henry V (1247-1281) of Luxembourg. In addition, it offers a detailed analysis of the language of these documents and thus represents a contribution to historical linguistics research on scriptae. Accordingly, the methods employed are a combination of historical and linguistic (drawing on the methods used for analysis of text varieties); they are used to investigate the written idioms of 13th century Northeast France. The study contains extensive material on the scriptae of the Middle Ages.

Against the background of current differences of opinion in the research on scripta, the present study aims to integrate the language-variety perspective into their empirical study. The 'historical language variety' approach developed specially for this study is demonstrated with reference to Old French negation and noun inflection in 179 original Luxembourgeois documents. The analyses show that the linguistic varieties manifesting themselves in the texts correlate not only with geographic but also with socio-cultural factors.
