This student friendly and self-explanatory textbook attempts to help readers, engineering students in India, grasp the basic concepts of engineering drawing clearly and easily. Care has been taken to include topics that mesh well with the syllabi of most universities, colleges and polytechnic institutes in India. Important topics, such as projection of solids, auxiliary projections, section of solids, isometric projections, orthographic projections and projection of planes, have been discussed comprehensively. Heavy emphasis has also been put on the actual figures described in the text, both from the first angle and third angle projection methods. A chapter on computer graphics further integrates these concepts with modern manual computer aided design. In the contemporary automotive manufacturing industry, service providers are continuously working to improve system optimization in order to remain competitive in the market and deliver quality products to satisfy their customers. With this comes the possibility of failure, rejection and reworking of the components or services in the system, which can incur high costs and impact the reputation of an organization. This book uses Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to assess, investigate and predict the Risk Priority Number (RPN) of potential failures for three companies within the manufacturing industry: A metal component supplier in the automotive sector Part manufacturer for the automobile and engineering industries Manufacturer of suspension components for commercial vehicles Integrating human expertise and artificial intelligence on a single platform, the authors use fuzzy logic as a tool to overcome the vagueness associated with traditional methods of assessing potential failures. This book covers the strategic use of continuous improvement (CI) techniques for manufacturing performance improvement. It focuses primarily on strategies that can be adopted by small and middle-sized enterprises in manufacturing in order to meet the global challenges and competition. The book begins with an introduction to CI (or Kaizen), explaining different CI approaches and strategies. Chapter 2 offers a literature review of CI, examining conceptual frameworks, case studies, and surveys. Next, the book deals with the design of the study, detailing the work done in each phase along with the tools, techniques and models. Chapter 4 presents a detailed survey to determine the present status of continuous improvement strategies in the Indian manufacturing industry, to assess the important barriers that effect the implementation of CI strategies, and to also assess the role of key enablers leading to improve the performance of manufacturing operations. Chapter 5 is comprised of detailed case studies to further analyze the application of the discussed CI strategies. The purpose of Chapter 6 is to develop the relationship among the different identified most important barriers in implementing CI approach using interpretive structural modeling (ISM) and classify these barriers depending upon their driving and dependence power. Finally Chapter 7 provides conclusions, addresses potential limitations, and also looks to the future.

Advances in technology have moved manufacturing organizations toward a new competitive landscape in terms of improved product market characteristics, improved plant capacity and flexibility. With the liberalization and globalization of today's economy, a lot of pressure has come on the organisations in developing countries to perform better in the coming days. For that reason, the companies' related to industrial production should try to improve their technological status by implementing advanced manufacturing technologies through joint ventures or licensing agreements. It comprises of five phases: literature review, survey of manufacturing industry by employing strategically designed questionnaire, conduction of case studies in different organizations, the inferences drawn from the survey and case studies have been synthesized for the development of implementation plan. An implementation plan has been suggested to equip the technology manager with number of options such as optimism, pessimism and averages for exercising the freedom to manage the industrial situation through flexible system methodology.

Today's managers often try to apply sophisticated tools and technologies to deal with problems that can be solved with low-cost approach. As saying "Work smarter, not harder." Kaizen, first and foremost, builds the employees morale and self - respect. Company benefits from worker's participation as well as from the aggregate financial benefits of the ideas. The concept of Kaizen is deeply ingrained in everybody's mind at plant of medium sized company manufacturing cold rolled steel strips. More number of cold rolling mills is coming in the market and every one is trying to increase the profitability, which can only be possible through the continuous improvement in every field. An attempt has been done to implement Kaizen practice in a process industry to increase the overall profit of the company. A steering committee has been formed to monitor the overall Kaizen initiation and implementation. Different projects are selected in the field of consumable cost by reducing the consumption of fuel and power; quality defect by reducing the defect of gauge variation and stickers marks; and increase the production of bottleneck production line.

The ultimate objective of the manufacturing organizations today is to increase profitability through system simplification, organizational potential and incremental improvements by using modern techniques like Continuous Improvement, TPM and TQM etc. Most of the manufacturing organizations are currently encountering a necessity to respond to rapidly changing customer needs, desires and tastes. In order for organization to remain competitive and retain their market share in this global market, continuous improvement of manufacturing system processes has become necessary. Different strategies are involved in successful implementation of Continuous Improvement approach in different organizations. Research is still lacking to check the performance of such managerial techniques in Manufacturing Industry. So an attempt has been made to identify such strategies, to check the level of importance and difficulties of these strategies and the important benefits achieved after successful implementation of both Continuous Improvement approach and its Strategies have been identified.
