Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome and Cannabinoid Hyperemesis
comprehensively reviews the clinical features and pathophysiology
of cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) and cannabinoid hyperemesis
syndrome (CHS). This book differentiates the clinical presentation
of CVS and CHS from other vomiting syndromes and provides the
information necessary to diagnose and effectively treat these
disorders. Compiled by expert CVS/CHS clinicians and written by
physicians and researchers from several disciplines, this reference
provides the most updated, evidence-based approaches, and
summarizes the latest research on CVS/CHS. Important topics such as
the neural systems that drive nausea and vomiting, clinical
features of CVS/CHS including its subtypes, insights into
pathogenesis, as well as the curious association of hot-water
bathing associated with both of these disorders are all explored.
This is a must-have reference for residents and fellows in
training, as well as busy clinicians who care for patients with CVS
and CHS across multiple care settings including ambulatory clinics,
the emergency department, hospitals, and substance use/abuse
treatment centers. It is also a useful reference for investigators
with an interest in these vomiting disorders.

Regulation of Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals: A Global
Perspective offers a comprehensive resource for information on
regulatory aspects of the growing and economically important
functional food industry. Regulatory systems and definitions of key
terms-food, supplement, drug, etc-vary from country to country. A
thorough understanding of laws and regulation within and among key
countries with regard to functional foods, herbal extracts or
drugs, and nutritional supplements is critical to the direction of
food companies that are developing products for these markets.
International experts with legal and/or scientific expertise
address relevant topics from quality issues, to organic foods to
labeling. Innovative product development within the framework of
existing regulations will be addressed in individual chapters.
Overview chapters will discuss global principles, inter-country
trading issues, and present a comparison of the laws and
regulations within different countries graphically.
A "must-have" handbook for research professionals, management,
and marketing strategists in the worldwide functional
foods/nutritional supplements business. Food technicians and
engineers responsible for manufacturing quality in this industry
should add it to their library to ensure that they have a thorough
knowledge of the applicable legal requirements. The book will also
serve as an indispensable shelf reference for lawyers in the food
industry and government health professionals with regulatory
responsibilities.

This landmark dictionary serves as a basis for
historical-comparative research on Tibetan. Conceptualized
empirically and etymologically, it builds on extensive data from
the Tibetan dialects and establishes the relationship to Written
Tibetan. It reflects historical sound change and semantic change in
all of linguistic Tibet. Based on historical sound change and
geographical distribution, the dictionary applies a new
classification of the Tibetan dialects.

This book contains extended and revised versions of the best papers
that were presented during the fifteenth edition of the IFIP/IEEE
WG10.5 International Conference on Very Large Scale Integration, a
global System-on-a-Chip Design & CAD conference. The 15th
conference was held at the Georgia Institute of Technology,
Atlanta, USA (October 15-17, 2007). Previous conferences have taken
place in Edinburgh, Trondheim, Vancouver, Munich, Grenoble, Tokyo,
Gramado, Lisbon, Montpellier, Darmstadt, Perth and Nice. The
purpose of this conference, sponsored by IFIP TC 10 Working Group
10.5 and by the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation
(CEDA), is to provide a forum to exchange ideas and show industrial
and academic research results in the field of microelectronics
design. The current trend toward increasing chip integration and
technology process advancements brings about stimulating new
challenges both at the physical and system-design levels, as well

The question of how the Bible received its unusual form has been a
question addressed by scholars since critical study of the text
began. Early attention focused on the Pentateuch and the Primary
History. Archival Historiography in Jewish Antiquity argues that
Ezra and Nehemiah, late texts sometimes overlooked in such
discussions, reveal another piece of this longstanding puzzle.
Laura Carlson Hasler suggests that the concept of archival
historiography makes sense of Ezra and Nehemiah's unusual format
and place in the Bible. Adapting the symbolic quality of ancient
Near Eastern archives to their own purposes, the writers of these
books found archiving an expression of religious and social power
in a colonized context. Using the book of Esther as a comparative
example, Carlson Hasler addresses literary disruption, a form
unpalatable to modern readers, as an expected element of archival
historiography. This book argues that archiving within the
experience of trauma is more than sophisticated history writing,
and in fact served to facilitate Judean recovery after the losses
of exile.
Switzerland 1652: an eleven-year old girl, a strong-willed child
with rich imagination, who grows up without parents in a remote
valley, claims that she can create birds. The girl is arrested,
accused of witchcraft, put to a long and painful trial in Lucerne
and finally executed. She was punished for assuming creative power
which was God's alone. It was with good reasons that the
authorities had chosen the parentless child for an exemplary trial:
she was the weakest member of a community of rebelling peasant
farmers, whom they wanted to bring to reason. Seven years later a
similar case, this time in Upper Swabia, one of the German
territories: A boy of nine years and his eleven-year old sister are
suspected and condemned for alleged sexual relations with the
devil. Because they were found to be too young to be executed, they
were kept for four long years in the monastery of Buchau, until the
verdict could be executed. Translated from the original work of
Swiss writer Eveline Hasler, The Child Witches of Lucerne and
Buchau, provides a moving memorial for these children convicted and
executed for witchcraft.

Situated where salt and freshwater meet, where floods and fields
'mingle parts', Emily Hasler's second collection exposes the
dailiness of disaster to chart the constantly shifting courses of
rivers and lives. Taking its name from the sections of libraries
where much of Hasler's research began, Local Interest maps the
friable and slippery landscapes of south Suffolk and north Essex:
estuaries and water meadows, coastal defences and disused decoys,
possible futures and forgotten pasts. This is a book of habitats
lost, created and threatened, teeming with plants, people, animals
and 'legless, uneyed life'. Here are promontories, precarity and
potential; the first English sea battle and a forgotten stuntman;
rare and familiar birds; a fish die-off and a vanished world; a
historic earthquake and continuous erosion. Moments and millennia
are as muddled as the elements. In these poems nothing is pure and
everything is borrowed. Language is hybrid; poems are 'stolen' and
'observed'. Local Interest questions boundaries and belonging,
squinting at ideas of invasion and migration, borders and
crossings. It asks what is 'local' and to whom; how we might
celebrate dwelling while looking beyond permanence and ownership.
This is poetry that wallows at the muddy edges of things, that asks
you to follow it 'through every breach that was and could be'.

First published in 1823, Hogg's powerful novel combines two stories
that hauntingly echo each other, one set in Edinburgh and the
Scottish Borders in the early 1820s, and the other set in the
Highlands in 1746, the time of Culloden and its devastating
aftermath. The Three Perils of Woman subversively challenges many
of the attitudes and assumptions of the established elite of Hogg's
day, for example by refusing to gloss over what it calls 'the
disgrace of the British annals', the atrocities committed by the
Duke of Cumberland's victorious army in the Highlands after
Culloden. Likewise, in its story of the 1820s Hogg's novel
questions prevailing social attitudes to prostitution and other
matters. The Three Perils of Woman had an interested but shocked
and hostile reception on its first publication, and this
controversial text was omitted from all the nineteenth-century
collected editions of Hogg's works. It remained out of print from
the 1820s until its republication in 1995 in the new Stirling /
South Carolina edition of Hogg published by Edinburgh University
Press, on which the present edition is based.Since 1995 The Three
Perils of Woman has come to be seen as a book of outstanding
interest and importance. 'Commentators once dismissed Perils of
Woman as a bad book because it trampled on the flowerbeds of
early-nineteenth-century decorum; they now acclaim it a masterpiece
for the very same reason, reading subversive craft in the place of
oafishness.' Ian Duncan, Studies in Hogg and his World 'Both
stories [of The Three Perils of Woman] are generically diverse,
self-consciously impure. Hogg described them as 'domestic tales',
apparently soliciting a female readership whose delicacy he then
assaults with speculations about promiscuity and prostitution, and
with prayers so chattily informal that reviewers found them
blasphemous. Both stories modulate suddenly from comedy to tragedy,
though one - but which?- struggles through to what may be a happy
ending. [...] What matters about The Three Perils of Woman is not
the conclusions it has to offer about the issues it raises, but the
fact that these are addressed with such painful urgency. They have
become urgent once again, and will continue to be so; and if the
book provides an especially useful way of thinking about them, it's
because it offers an 'unflinching' account of a violent national
past while acknowledging the temptation, the impulse, even the
need, to flinch. ' John Barrell, London Review of Books.
At the code level, discrete-time chaotic systems can be used to generate spreading codes for DS-SS systems. At the signal level, continuous-time chaotic systems can be used to generate wideband carriers for digital modulation schemes.
The potential of chaos engineering is now recognized worldwide, with research groups actively pursuing the exploitation of chaotic phenomena in cryptography, spread spectrum communications, electromagnetic interference reduction, and many other applications. Although some noteworthy results have already been achieved, until now, the field has lacked both a systematic treatment of these developments and a careful, quantitative comparison of chaos-based and conventional techniques.
Chaotic Electronics in Telecommunications fills both of those needs. It addresses the use of chaos in digital communications applications, from the coding level to circuit design. Each chapter offers a formal exposition of the theoretical and engineering tools needed to apply chaos, followed by discussion of the algorithms and circuits needed to apply the theory to real-world communications systems.
First Published in 1996 Can wildlife utilization become a
sustainable alternative means of land usage? This anthropological
study reveals the intricate web of socio-cultural forces at play in
wildlife management in Africa, shedding light on many issues
central to the management of natural resources around the world.
Based on two years of fieldwork in a remote part of the Zambezi
valley, where buffalos and elephants compete with foragers and
stream-bank cultivators and where safari operators, spirit mediums
and wildlife committees exert conflicting rights over natural
resources, this book charts the progress of Zimbabwe's experiment
in the use of wildlife for the benefit of local communities through
the Communal Areas Management Program for Indigenous Resources
(CAMPFIRE). CAMPFIRE aims to redirect control and benefits of
state-run wildlife management through local community-based
wildlife utilization common property regimes. Focusing on the
cultural and political dynamics associated with wildlife use,
Hasler's book describes the village context, where conflicting and
ambiguous rights, and vested interests in natural resources from
ward, district, national and global levels, result in a confusion
of jurisdictions concerning use, ownership and access to wildlife.

The Show that never Was Numerous publications and exhibitions have
examined Jean-Michel Basquiat's extensive oeuvre that consists of
more than 3000 works, this catalogue though focuses on eight
paintings only: In the summer of 1982, Basquiat traveled to Modena,
Italy, for one of his first solo exhibitions in Europe at the
gallery of Emilio Mazzoli. Within just a few days, he painted a
group of large-format paintings that surpassed his previous work
not only in terms of their scale. Each at least two by four meters
in size, they mark the transition from graffiti spraying in the
streets of Manhattan to painting on canvas. At the same time, they
reflect an artist coming into his own. The paintings - including
masterpieces that today are considered pivotal and among the most
outstanding of his oeuvre - have never been shown together. This
catalogue revisits this crucial moment of Basquiat's career some 40
years ago and reunites them for the first time.

'I first saw the Goetheanum as a fifteen-year-old through
binoculars. I was fascinated and wanted to know more about this
incredible building. What am I seeing? Why these forms? What
happens in this building?' - Hans Hasler The Goetheanum in Dornach,
Switzerland, was conceived as a visible expression of Rudolf
Steiner's spiritual philosophy - a living experience of
anthroposophy in the form of art. Whilst Steiner conveyed his ideas
and concepts in many books and lectures, the Goetheanum - with its
pioneering concrete forms built in the 1920s - is a manifestation
of spirituality in architecture, painting and sculpture. This
essential handbook, packed with colour photos and illustrations,
gives a broad background to Rudolf Steiner's architectural
masterpiece and the work that goes on within it. Hasler explains
how the present Goetheanum was built, and describes its recently
remodelled great hall and stage, with its painted ceiling and
sculpted walls. He details the building's context and landscape
design, the other significant structures in its vicinity, and gives
a description of the first, wooden, Goetheanum and its destruction
by fire. Today the Goetheanum's remarkable external contours house
theatres and studios, laboratories, offices and libraries. Apart
from its major stages for drama and eurythmy, it serves as the
headquarters of the Anthroposophical Society and the School of
Spiritual Science, with the latter's sections for medicine,
agriculture, education, the arts, science, and so on. The
Goetheanum is also home to numerous conferences, meetings and
events. This book provides a marvellous visual and textual guide to
one of the most original buildings of our time.
