This publication will serve as a reference for academics and instructors coordinating distance education programmes, initiating distance education courses, and implementing such programmes for those earning professional degrees.

Swedish Marxist Noir - The Dark Wave of Crime Writers and the Influence of Raymond Chandler (Paperback): Per Hellgren Swedish Marxist Noir - The Dark Wave of Crime Writers and the Influence of Raymond Chandler (Paperback)
Per Hellgren

This book is set to explore and develop a theory of Swedish Marxist Noir. In order to expose the dialectics of crime fiction, going from then (the American 1930s) to now (the Swedish post-1990s), we must explore, through a Marxist reading of several central works of crime fiction, the Marxist connection between the writings of Raymond Chandler and the Swedish wave of crime fiction since the 1960s. This dialectic, thus, consists of a long-term transition of ideas from Chandler, via the founders of Swedish social crime fiction, Sjoewall-Wahloeoe, to modern bestseller phenomena such as Henning Mankell, Stieg Larsson, Roslund & Hellstroem, Jens Lapidus, Arne Dahl and others. Marxist theories have had a profound influence on the crime genre ever since the American 1930s and there is a strong link between the Swedish writers and the work of chandler, both in terms of direct influence and philosophy: Their view on society and the ambition to write about a modern world gone wrong. Consequently, a Marxist view on existence, makes all these writers a part of the same tradition. Despite the eighty years that have passed since Chandler initiated his Marlowe novels.

The Individual in the Changing Working Life (Paperback): Katharina Naswall, Johnny Hellgren, Magnus Sverke The Individual in the Changing Working Life (Paperback)
Katharina Naswall, Johnny Hellgren, Magnus Sverke
R1,453 Discovery Miles 14 530 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Working life has been the subject of great change in recent years with contemporary conditions generally providing increased opportunities and autonomy for individuals. But these benefits can coincide with greater demands and responsibilities, increasing the pressure to work outside of traditional working hours and so creating conflict between work and family life. This book contributes towards our understanding of contemporary working life, considering how recent changes have affected the work climates, attitudes and well-being of individuals. Combining traditional theoretical frameworks with innovative research, it discusses both the positive and negative effects contemporary working life has on organizations and employees. International experts in the fields of work and organizational psychology present strategies to prevent negative working conditions and help individuals achieve a healthy work life balance.
