Humphrey Gilbert-Carter (1884-1969) was the first academic director of the Cambridge University Botanic Garden from 1921 until 1950. In this book, first published in 1924, Gilbert-Carter gives examples of informative labels that could be used in botanic gardens 'so as to give information as well as pleasure to as many people as possible'. Originally published in 1922, this book was created to provide an accessible guide to the plant varieties found in Cambridge University Botanic Garden.
