Originally published in 1922, this book was created to provide an
accessible guide to the plant varieties found in Cambridge
University Botanic Garden. It was written by Humphrey
Gilbert-Carter (1884-1969), the first academic Director of the
Garden, who held the position from 1919 to 1951. Numerous species
are listed, with information on their key characteristics and
native habitats. A variety of illustrative figures, a glossary and
a short bibliography are also included. This is a fascinating
document that will be of value to anyone with an interest in plant
science and the history of Cambridge University Botanic Garden.
