This book introduces key issues and historical contexts in critical
discursive research in psychology. It sets out methodological steps
for critical readings of texts, arguments that can be made for
qualitative research in academic settings, and arguments that could
be made against it by critical psychologists.
This book addresses three key questions: "Why is there
psychoanalysis in Japan?," "What do we learn about Japan from its
own forms of analysis?," and "What do we learn about ourselves from
Japan?" The book is about the development of psychoanalysis and
modern subjectivity in Japan. It shows how forms of individual
selfhood amenable to therapeutic intervention emerged as Japanese
culture has opened up to the West. It is also about how approaches
to analysing the self have encountered Japan and how analysts tried
to make sense of a culture that once seemed at odds with the aims
of psychotherapy.
Critical Discursive Psychology addresses issues in critical discursive research in psychology, and outlines the historical context in the discipline for the emergence of qualitative debates. Key critical theoretical resources are described and assessed and a series of polemics is staged that brings together writers who have helped shape critical work in psychology. It also sets out methodological steps for critical readings of texts and arguments for the role of psychoanalytic theory in qualitative research.
Single Case Research in Schools addresses and examines the variety
of cutting-edge issues in single case research (SCR) in educational
settings. Featuring simple and practical techniques for aggregating
data for evidence-based practices, the book delves into methods of
selecting behaviors of interest and measuring them reliably. The
latter part of Single Case Research in Schools is devoted to a
step-by-step model of using SCR to evaluate practices in schools.
This includes considerations such as measurement, date collection,
length of phases, design consideratoins, calculating effect size
and reliability of measures.
