While the ER main conference covers a wide spectrum of conceptual modeling research, increasingly complex real-world problems demand new p- spectives and activeresearchin new applications.The ER workshopsattempt to provideresearchers, students, andindustry professionalswitha forumto present and discuss emerging hot topics related to conceptual modeling. We received 13 excellent proposals for workshops to be held with ER 2008. We accepted the following seven based on peer reviews: 1. The Second International Workshop on Requirements, Intentions and Goals in Conceptual Modeling (RIGiM 2008), organized by Colette Rolland, C- son Woo, and Camille Salinesi. 6. The Second International Workshop on Semantic and Conceptual Issues in Geographic Information Systems (SeCoGIS 2008), organized by Esteban Zim anyi and Christophe Claramunt. 7. The 5th International Workshop on Web Information Systems Modeling (WISM 2008), organized by Flavius Frasincar, Geert-Jan Houben, and Philippe Thiran."

Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery have been widely accepted as key te- nologies for enterprises and organizations as a means of improving their abilities in data analysis, decision support, and the automatic extraction of knowledge from data. With the exponentially growing amount of information to be included in the decision making process, the data to be processed is becoming more and more complex in both structure and semantics. Consequently, the process of retrieval and knowledge disc- ery from this huge amount of heterogeneous complex data constitutes the reality check for research in the area. During the past few years, the International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK) has become one of the most important international scientific events to bring together researchers, developers and practitioners. The DaWaK conferences serve as a prominent forum for discussing the latest research issues and experiences in developing and deploying data warehousing and knowledge discovery systems, applications, and solutions. This year's conference, the 10th Int- national Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK 2008), continued the tradition of facilitating the cross-disciplinary exchange of ideas, expe- ence and potential research directions. DaWaK 2008 sought to disseminate innovative principles, methods, algorithms and solutions to challenging problems faced in the development of data warehousing, knowledge discovery and data mining applications.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery, DaWak 2007, held in Regensburg, Germany, September 3-7, 2007.

The 44 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 150 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on ETL processing, materialized view, multidimensional design, OLAP and multidimensional model, cubes processing, data warehouse applications, mining techniques, frequent itemsets, mining data streams, ontology-based mining, clustering, advanced mining techniques, association rules, miscellaneous applications, and classification.

We would like to welcome you to the proceedings of the workshops held in conjunction with the 23rd International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER 2004). The objective of the workshops associated with ER 2004 was to give p- ticipants the opportunity to present and discuss emerging hot topics related to conceptual modeling, thereby adding new perspectives to conceptual mod- ing. To meet the objective, we selected six workshops with topics on conceptual modelingforWebinformationintegration, digitalgovernment, GIS, changem- agement, e-business, and agent technology. Some of these workshopswere brand new while others had been held in conjunction with ER conferences as many as ?ve times. They are: 1. 1stInternationalWorkshoponConceptualModel-DirectedWebInformation Integration and Mining (CoMWIM 2004) 2. 1st International Workshop on Digital Government: Systems and Techno- gies (DGOV 2004) 3. 1st International Workshop on Conceptual Modeling for GIS (CoMoGIS 2004) 4. 3rd International Workshop on Evolution and Change in Data Management (ECDM 2004) 5. 1st International Workshop on Conceptual Modelling for Agents (CoMoA 2004) 6. 5th International Workshop on Conceptual Modeling Approaches for E-Business (The Model-Driven Design Value Proposition) (eCOMO 2004) These six workshops received 38, 16, 58, 21, 17, and 13 papers, respectively. Following the philosophy of the ER workshops, the selection of contributions was very carefully carried out in order to keep the excellent standard; 13, 6, 16, 8, 7, and 6 papers were accepted by the six workshops, respectively, with acceptance rates 34%, 37%, 27%, 38%, 41%, and 46%, respective

The 22nd International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER 2003) returned to Chicago after an absence of 18 years. Chicago, a city well known for its trendsetting and daring architecture, has met the new century with a renewed commitment to open public spaces and human interaction. Thus it provided a ?tting venue for ER 2003, the scope of which was expanded to encompass all aspects of conceptual modeling in order to deal with constantly changing information technology and business practices and to accommodate a new openness in connecting systems to each other and to human users. The ER 2003 Program Co-chairs, Il-Yeol Song, Stephen Liddle, and Tok Wang Ling, along with an outstanding Program Committee assembled one of the ?nest technical programs of this conference series. In keeping with the tradition of previous ER conferences, the program for ER 2003 also included four preconference workshops, two preconference tutorials, two conference tutorials, two panels, and a demos and poster session. The Program Co-chairs, as well as Manfred Jeusfeld and Oscar Pastor (Workshop Co-chairs), Ee-Peng Lim and Tobey Teorey (Tutorial Co-chairs), Avigdor Gal and Elisa Bertino (Panel Co-chairs), and Heinrich Mayr (Demos and Poster Chair), deserve our appreciation for an excellent job. It was a pleasure working with all of them."

The volume LNCS 12393 constitutes the papers of the 22nd International Conference Big Data Analytics and Knowledge Discovery which will be held online in September 2020. The 15 full papers presented together with 14 short papers plus 1 position paper in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 77 submissions. This volume offers a wide range to following subjects on theoretical and practical aspects of big data analytics and knowledge discovery as a new generation of big data repository, data pre-processing, data mining, text mining, sequences, graph mining, and parallel processing.

The 12 full papers and 10 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 61 submissions. The LNCS Journal on Data Semantics is devoted to the presentation of notable work that, in one way or another, addresses research and development on issues related to data semantics. The scope of the journal ranges from theories supporting the formal definition of semantic content to innovative domain-specific applications of semantic knowledge. The journal addresses researchers and advanced practitioners working on the semantic web, interoperability, mobile information services, data warehousing, knowledge representation and reasoning, conceptual database modeling, ontologies, and artificial intelligence.

Volume XIII constitutes a special issue on semantic data warehouses. The papers in this volume address several topics within this relatively new domain, providing different insights into the multiple benefits that can be gained by envisioning data warehouses from a semantic perspective. These papers broach many new ideas to be addressed in future work.
