student understands the reasons behind specific activities. Each
nursing procedure has the following features: Explanation of the
procedure, Learning outcomes, Learning assumed to be in place,
Indications and contraindications, Resources required, Specific
guidelines for the particular procedure, Essential patient
teaching, Critical assessment criteria, Tips for nurses and/or
precautions. Now in its second edition, additional procedures have
been added and where appropriate, the latest evidence-based
information added. Care has been taken to explain the integration
with related aspects of the nursing curricula.
There is a growing awareness in the global business environment of
the importance of managing the supply side, also referred to as the
input side, of an organisation or supply chain as a strategically
important area. South African managers are certainly also aware of
the potential of the supply side to contribute to strategic
competitive advantage in an increasingly difficult and competitive
business environment. This seventh edition of Purchasing and supply
management provides contemporary insights into this dynamic field.
Purchasing and supply management introduces current concepts and
management tools to make purchasing and supply management more
efficient in functioning within the broader concept of supply chain
management. It covers not only basic principles, but also the
activities incumbent on a purchasing and supply manager. It
addresses the relationships between purchasing and concepts such as
strategic sourcing, and areas of application. This new edition has
been comprehensively updated and includes case studies and multiple
choice questions. It is student friendly, while at the same time
remaining a valuable aid to the purchasing fraternity in South
African business. Some of the more prominent topics that are
included in this edition are the following: Purchasing and supply
policies and strategies; Purchasing price determination and cost
analysis; Evaluation and selection of suppliers; The management of
quality; Sustainability in purchasing and supply; Supplier
development; Electronic commerce and electronic procurement
applications Purchasing and supply management is aimed at students
in this field as well as practitioners in business. The editors of
this standard South African text, Prof. Hannie Badenhorst-Weiss, Dr
Orpha Cilliers, Ms Winnie Dlamini and Prof. Marcus Ambe, obtained
valuable contributions from authors from a number of institutions.
Dis amper slaaptyd vir Bella en Bollie; tyd om te bad, melk en
koekies te geniet en ’n slaaptydstorie te lees. Maar toe Bollie
besluit om weg te kruip, mis hy amper die belangrikste deel van
slaaptyd!
With the development of the integrative supply chain management
approach, traditional thinking about concepts such as purchasing,
materials management, distribution and logistics management has
become outdated. Speculation on the reasons for dynamic growth of
supply chain management in South African businesses ranges from the
opening up of the domestic economy to the pressure of global
competitors, and technology advancements. The astonishing success
of progressive organisations such as SA Breweries (now part of the
international group AB-InBev), Sasol, Iscor (now called
ArcelorMittal SA), Sappi and a number of retail groups (e.g.
Truworths) in the international marketplace, however, is in no
small part a result of their early adoption of the supply chain
philosophy (customer value creation, total cost of ownership,
integration of processes and the reduction of cycle time) and they
have contributed significantly to the unprecedented growth of
supply chain management in South Africa. Supply chain management
identifies the strategic impact and evolutionary direction of the
field in a global market environment and emphasises the changes in
processes and management thinking required to introduce supply
chain management in South African organisations. It covers topics
such as supply chain strategies, supply chain integration,
performance improvement, customer service, quality and inventory
management, total cost of ownership, green supply chain management,
e-commerce and information technology, negotiations, transport and
distribution management, the retail supply chain, global supply
chain management and SCM in the public sector. Supply chain
management is aimed at all supply chain, logistics and transport
management students.
The global market of today is characterised by fierce competition
which has heightened customer expectations and forced business
enterprises to invest in, and focus attention on, their supply
chains. This, together with continuing advances in information and
communication technology, has motivated the continuous evolution of
the supply chain and of the techniques to manage it effectively. In
South Africa, the public sector is confronted with supply chain
skill and capacity shortages. Hence there is a need for continuous
learning and development of supply chain staff to maintain a
feasible fit between government institutions' objectives, skills
and resources and a changing procurement environment. Public
procurement and supply chain management will help to accelerate
much-needed transformation in the public sector in this regard.
Public procurement and supply chain management provides new ideas,
concepts, case studies and practical experiences regarding public
sector supply chains. Public procurement and supply chain
management will serve as a valuable resource for public procurement
learners, government officials, academics, researchers,
consultants, students and other concerned parties with interest in
public procurement and supply chain management.

Garden of Mystery, the 'Gulshan-i Raz', holds a unique position in
Persian Sufi literature. It is a compact and concise exploration of
the doctrines of Sufism at the peak of their development that has
remained a primary text of Sufism throughout the world from Turkey
to India. It comprises a thousand lines of inspired poetry taking
the form of answers to questions put by a fellow mystic. It
provides a coherent literary bridge between the Persian 'school of
love' poetry and the rapidly growing number of metaphysical and
gnostic compositions from what had come to be known as the school
of the 'Unity of Being'. Translated by Robert Darr who has for
thirty-five years been a student of classical Islamic culture.

Examining the ways in which social anthropologists might gain from
and contribute to, historical studies this volume contains papers
on historical studies by anthropologists on 19th century Nupe,
Yoruba and Benin and 17th century Cameroons in West Africa; on the
succession in kingship in Buganda; and on the development of
national politics in Albania. First published in 1968.
In this new volume, leading researchers provide state-of-the-art
perspectives on how social interaction influences the development
of knowledge. The book integrates approaches from a variety of
disciplines including developmental psychology, psychopathology,
philosophy, anthropology, sociology, evolutionary biology, and
primatology. It reviews the nature and type of interactions that
promote development as well as the conceptual frameworks used to
explain the relation between individuals and groups. Social Life
and Social Knowledge comprehensively addresses conceptual questions
central to understanding human life and development: Is the human
form of social life reducible to biological processes? What
psychological abilities constitute the specifically human form of
social life? What are the processes and contexts within which these
abilities develop? How should we conceptualize the links between
social life and the development of thought, and how do individuals
and society contribute to these processes? The book is intended for
philosophers, primatologists, anthropologists, biologists,
sociologists, and developmental and educational psychologists
interested in social development, social cognition, and
developmental psychopathology. It also serves as a resource for
courses in social development and those that focus on the
intersection between cognition, development, and culture.
Across many social and commercial domains, governments regulate the
official names used to identify individuals, groups, places,
companies & products, and even diseases. This innovative volume
investigates the relationship between names and the law, with its
significant implications for identity (individual, familial, race,
ethnicity, gender, species, brand & product industry, etc.) and
status (social, scientific, economic, and political). I. M. Nick
introduces the state of the art on this interdisciplinary topic¾
providing a diachronic and synchronic view of onomastics and the
law¾ and expert contributors examine seminal Anglo-American legal
cases to demonstrate how name polices relate to broader questions
of power, privilege, and politics. Each chapter offers an overview
of key issues in onomastics and language policy across multiple
geo-cultural contexts, and applies the interdisciplinary insights
to real-world policies. This book is a valuable resource for
scholars of legal linguistics, forensic linguistics, onomastics,
language policy, and cultural studies.

Written by highly respected theorists in psychology and philosophy,
the chapters in this book explicate and address fundamental
epistemological issues involved in the problem of the relationship
between the individual and the collective. Different theoretical
viewpoints are presented on this relationship, as well as between
the nature of rationality and morality, relativism and
universalism, and enculturation and internalization. Many chapters
also highlight similarities and differences between these
alternative frameworks and Piaget's theory, and thus correct the
misperception that Piaget had nothing to say about the social
dimension of development. Other chapters focus on the implications
of these debates for the important topic areas of pedagogy, moral
development, and the development of social understanding in infancy
and childhood. Although Piaget's theory is presented and evaluated
by some of the chapters in this collection, the authors remain
critical and do not shy away from revising or extending Piaget's
theory whenever it is deemed necessary. Though the topic covered in
this book is of fundamental importance in the social sciences, it
is rarely addressed in a sustained way as it is in this collection
of chapters. The book benefits social scientists interested in
fundamental epistemological issues, especially as these concern the
relationship between the individual and the collective, with
implications for the conceptualization of morality and rationality.

The transport sector continues to shift towards alternative
powertrains, particularly with the UK Government’s announcement
to end the sale of petrol and diesel passenger cars by 2030 and
increasing support for alternatives. Despite this announcement, the
internal combustion continues to play a significant role both in
the passenger car market through the use of hybrids and sustainable
low carbon fuels, as well as a key role in other sectors such as
heavy-duty vehicles and off-highway applications across the globe.
Building on the industry-leading IC Engines conference, the 2021
Powertrain Systems for Net-Zero Transport conference (7-8 December
2021, London, UK) focussed on the internal combustion engine’s
role in Net-Zero transport as well as covered developments in the
wide range of propulsion systems available (electric, fuel cell,
sustainable fuels etc) and their associated powertrains. To achieve
the net-zero transport across the globe, the life-cycle analysis of
future powertrain and energy was also discussed. Powertrain Systems
for Net-Zero Transport provided a forum for engine, fuels,
e-machine, fuel cell and powertrain experts to look closely at
developments in powertrain technology required, to meet the demands
of the net-zero future and global competition in all sectors of the
road transportation, off-highway and stationary power industries.
In recent years, a considerable amount of effort has been devoted
to cyber-threat protection of computer systems which is one of the
most critical cybersecurity tasks for single users and businesses
since even a single attack can result in compromised data and
sufficient losses. Massive losses and frequent attacks dictate the
need for accurate and timely detection methods. Current static and
dynamic methods do not provide efficient detection, especially when
dealing with zero-day attacks. For this reason, big data analytics
and machine intelligence-based techniques can be used. This book
brings together researchers in the field of big data analytics and
intelligent systems for cyber threat intelligence CTI and key data
to advance the mission of anticipating, prohibiting, preventing,
preparing, and responding to internal security. The wide variety of
topics it presents offers readers multiple perspectives on various
disciplines related to big data analytics and intelligent systems
for cyber threat intelligence applications. Technical topics
discussed in the book include: Big data analytics for cyber threat
intelligence and detection Artificial intelligence analytics
techniques Real-time situational awareness Machine learning
techniques for CTI Deep learning techniques for CTI Malware
detection and prevention techniques Intrusion and cybersecurity
threat detection and analysis Blockchain and machine learning
