"What Does Love Really Mean?" is a character building story that provides explanation to a child's curiosity about love. Jackson, the main character heard his family say "I Love You" all the time, but never really thought about what it meant. After thinking it over, Jackson decided to ask his parents "What Does Love Really Mean?" Not only does the story describe love to a child for understanding, but it can also be used as a guide to facilitating healthy discussion about building good character traits. As adults, encourage children to relate the vivid illustrations to their own lives and use the discussion questions to guide fun, loving and healthy conversations about building character.
It appears too often that people are most affected by what others think of them when they lack self-identity. My Kind of Me is meant to inspire self-love, and challenge children to accept themselves no matter what others think or say. I want young people to realize that what's cool today may not fit into who they are as individuals. So, instead of trying to fit into today's trend, create your own and stick to it because it's what you like. Styles and fads will come and go, but at the end of an era you will still be you. Do you like what you see? Learn from Langston, the kid who values being himself- at all costs. No matter what the situation, he has the solution and so can you. Areia Cobb shares the light hearted story of Langston as he encourages a classmate to love himself. It's the ME loving ME philosophy.
Suzy is a snowflake fairy who starts to notice that she looks different than those around her and this worries Suzy. When one of her friends sees Suzy praying to God he becomes curious. Suzy shows him how to pray so he can talk to God. Both friends realize that all of us are unique just as God intends. These fairy tales are based on very old Eastern European and Asian fairy tales, most of which are unknown to the West. The classic fairy tales we know today, such as Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, were originally passed on orally from generation to generation until eventually they were written down, such as by the Brothers Grimm, only to name the most popular example. These Eastern European fairy tales (a lot of them are from the former Soviet Union), too, were eventually passed on in writing, but they are not as widely known as the classic tales. This is the first volume of a series in which these beautiful stories, based on their German editions, are being retold in English in order to make them more widely available, and not lost.
