Service design is a holistic, co-creative, and user-centered
approach to understanding user behavior for creating or refining
services. Use this LITA Guide to help as a toolkit for implementing
service design studies and projects at all types of libraries. It
begins with directions for how to create a service design team and
assembling a user working group for your library and move through
the various phases in a service design journey. The authors outline
the tools required to gain insights into user behavior and
expectation and how to diagnose the difference between a symptom
and a problem users face when interacting within the library
environment. The guide features a series of examples that the
service design team can use to learn how to work with library staff
and patrons to find out what current user experience is like and
how to refine services to better meet user expectations. Learn how
to: *create service blueprints - to outline the service delivery
model and understand pain points and places where services can be
refined *create customer journey maps - to better understand the
actual paths taken by users to fulfill a service. *find the right
tool for the situation so you can make an informed decision on
usage *create an ethnographic program of your own tailored to your
library environment *understand how assessment and
post-implementation is key to any project's success *create a
service design plan that fits your library and patronage This book
is a toolkit, not a step-by-step, paint-by-the-numbers book. It is
geared towards libraries of all types and sizes and will provide
tools that any library can use and ideas for developing a service
design project that fits within the means of your library so that
your project will be meaningful, useful, and sustainable. While
several books have been written on how to implement service design,
this book will be the first to explain how to practice service
design in libraries.

Legumes are very important plants playing a central role in
biological research. They are a key component of sustainable
agricultural systems because of symbiotic nitrogen fixation and
other beneficial symbiosis with mycorrhizal fungi. Studies on most
of the major leguminous crops are hampered by large genome sizes
and other disadvantages which have hindered the isolation and
characterisation of genes with important roles in legume biology
and agriculture. For this reason Lotus japonicus was chosen as a
model species for legume research some ten years ago. Since then,
many groups around the world have adopted Lotus as a model and have
developed numerous resources and protocols to facilitate basic and
applied research on this species. This handbook represents the
first effort to compile basic descriptions and methods for research
in Lotus, including symbiotic processes, cell and molecular biology
protocols, functional genomics, mutants, gene tagging and genetic
analysis, transformation and reverse genetic analysis, primary and
secondary metabolism, and an exhaustive update of the scientific
literature available on this plant.
The working world of the twenty-first century can be a daunting
place. With the glacial pace of unemployment decline, people cling
to the jobs they have, not taking full advantage of the benefits of
job transition. Courage in the Twenty-First Century is centered
around the art of moving forward both in professional and personal
life. Author, Joan Marques offers a strategy for self-renewal to
divulge the virtues and viewpoints to successfully move from one
career to another. Using the seven step system of: choice,
open-mindedness, usefulness, reality, attitude, genius, and
education, Marques ushers readers through the process of
transitioning from one career to another in a time of employment
uncertainty.
Business education today demands more responsible and synergistic
approaches on a number of key fronts. Distance learning, a new
generation of students with its own unique character, ethical
questions concerning social responsibility and the environment, and
the powerful effects of new technologies are transforming higher
education at large and business education in particular. Through
their combined experience in these domains, and their broad
diversity in geographical, ethnic, and educational backgrounds, the
authors are living and leading constructive interdisciplinary
change in business education. This book will be divided into three
interrelated parts: 1) Change in Management Education, 2) Change in
Leadership Strategies, and 3) Expansion of Views and Approaches.
These are the three areas that require most urgent paradigm shifts
followed by swift, targeted action.
