Both technically and economically, additives form a large and
increasingly significant part of the polymer industry, both
plastics and elastomers. Since the first edition of this book was
published, there have been wide-ranging developments, covering
chemistry and formulation of new and more efficient additive
systems and the safer use of additives, both by processors in the
factory and, in the wider field, as they affect the general public.
This new edition follows the successful formula of its
predecessor, it provides a comprehensive view of all types of
additives, concentrating mainly on their technical aspects
(chemistry/formulation, structure, function, main applications)
with notes on the commercial background of each. The field has been
expanded to include any substance that is added to a polymer to
improve its use, so including reinforcing materials (such as glass
fibre), carbon black and titanium dioxide.
This is a book which has been planned for ease of use and the
information is presented in a way which is appropriate to the
users' needs.

This book contains an Open Access chapter The continued rise of the
digital age and its radical innovation activities compel us to
reconceptualize how entrepreneurial ventures and other
organizations use various technologies to grow, evolve, and
perform. How do the boldest entrepreneurship theories assist in
this reconceptualization? Entrepreneurship has been heralded for
decades as a revolutionary movement within the domain of business
theory and practice. If so, then what are the most powerful and
significant aspects of this entrepreneurial revolution?
Bleeding-edge Entrepreneurship illuminates new possibilities,
expanding entrepreneurship's massive potential to create unexplored
physical and virtual realms. The contributors are worldwide experts
in technology-enabled entrepreneurship and social enterprise. The
chapters cover a wide range of entrepreneurial phenomena, theories,
and practices. Delineating the very best practices for venture
performance in the world's most progressive realms, illustrating
the nature of impact in extreme uncertainty, and shaping public
policy regarding all these activities, Bleeding-edge
Entrepreneurship is required reading for practitioners and
academics in all fields of business, but especially those who are
interested in entrepreneurship. Contemporary Issues in
Entrepreneurship Research is an official book series of the
Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE). Each
volume is designed around a specific theme of importance to the
entrepreneurship and small business community with articles
collectively exploring and developing theory and practice in the
field.
Leading authorities from wide geographical regions of the globe

animal production and progressive livestock farmers.
This book constitutes a first- or second-year graduate course in
operator theory. It is a field that has great importance for other
areas of mathematics and physics, such as algebraic topology,
differential geometry, and quantum mechanics. It assumes a basic
knowledge in functional analysis but no prior acquaintance with
operator theory is required.
The fundamental change in policing that began in 2001 was a
critical part of the Northern Ireland peace process. Seventy years
after its establishment the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC)
remained distrusted and unrepresentative of the Catholic -
nationalist community. This book explores how policing changed and
the significant contribution that overhaul made to the most
successful conflict transformation process in recent decades. It
looks at policing from an organizational perspective and focuses on
leadership, strategy and culture as it traces the journey from RUC
to PSNI. In this way it reflects the views of many key figures
inside the organization and of key political decision makers
outside of it. This book will be of tremendous interest to those
seeking to explore the underlying dynamics of one of the most
radical and challenging change processes in recent history and is a
must read for anyone interested in the Northern Irish peace
process.
Molecular Diagnostics in Dermatology and Dermatopathology
presents the basics of molecular biology and molecular diagnostic
methods most commonly used in the clinical laboratory, with an
emphasis on the concepts and testing most relevant to
dermatological diseases. Topics include the integration of newer
diagnostic and prognostic techniques with traditional histologic
approaches, and discussions of regulatory, ethical, legal, economic
issues and newer technologies. This important diagnostic tool
outlines the clinically relevant uses (i.e.; diagnostic, staging
and/or prognostic) applications of these techniques in the field of
dermatology. Molecular studies that investigate the pathogenesis of
skin diseases will be excluded, unless they also have a direct
diagnostic utility. The book will be of interest to practicing
pathologists, dermatology and pathology residents, dermatologists,
and dermatopathologists."
Mutinies in today's organizations are less violent than the
shipboard rebellions of Columbus's day, but the challenges leaders
face are very much the same Violent mutiny was common in seafaring
enterprises during the Age of Discovery-so common, in fact, that
dealing with mutineers was an essential skill for captains and
other leaders of the time. Mutinies in today's organizations are
much quieter, more social and intellectual, and far less violent,
yet the coordinated defiance of authority springs from
dissatisfactions very similar to those of long-ago shipboard crews.
This highly original book mines seafaring logs and other archives
of fifteenth- and sixteenth-century ship captains and discovers
instructive lessons for today's leaders facing challenges to their
authority as well as for other members of organizations in which
mutinous events occur. The book begins by examining mutinies
against great explorer captains of the Age of Discovery:
Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan, Sebastian Cabot, and
Henry Hudson. The authors then identify lessons that entrepreneurs,
leaders, and other members may apply to organizational
insurrections today. They find, surprisingly, that mutiny may be a
force for good in an organization, paving the way to more
collaborative leadership and stronger commitment to shared goals
and values.
Managers, business owners, public relations practitioners, and
others grapple daily with issues that have the potential to
radically redefine the reputation of a person, company, or
industry. They confront a fundamental question about contemporary
crisis management: to what extent is it possible to control events
and stakeholder responses to them, in order to contain escalating
crises or safeguard an organization's reputation? In Crisis
Management in a Complex World, authors Dawn Gilpin and Priscilla
Murphy address this question head-on. Operating from a strong
theoretical orientation, this book marks a sharp departure from
other crisis management texts, which focus on nuts-and-bolts
procedures and information distribution in an effort to simplify
the turbulent reality of a crisis situation. Instead, this book
pairs real-world examples from across the globe with theory-based
analysis to show why simplification often fails to alleviate
crises, and can even intensify them. Gilpin and Murphy propose a
new, complexity-based approach to organizational learning that can
allow organizations to adapt quickly to changing
circumstances.
This volume addresses both scholars and high-level practitioners
of public relations, organizational communication, and strategic
management. Strongly cross-disciplinary, the book draws on theories
from communication, the physical sciences, and business. It invites
controversy and ultimately aims to change the way people
conceptualize and prepare for crises.
"You shall guard Joseph Martin all the days of his life...When the
time is right, you shall reveal yourself to him." The voice of God
the Father speaks to Trefenwyl, a captain in the Lord's Host, and
so Trefenwyl departs to be present for the boy's birth. But the
angel is not the only one watching over Joseph Martin. As the boy
grows into a restless and unfulfilled man, demonic forces begin to
encroach upon him. His life starts to spiral out of control and
danger mounts, but Joseph discovers he has a new ally when
Trefenwyl reveals himself and saves him from certain death.
However, greater challenges and more dangers await this very
special young man as he struggles to recover his faith in the midst
of an epic battle of good versus evil in the inspiring saga, The
Last Soul.

Essays on the post-modern reception and interpretation of the
Middle Ages, with a particular focus on its relationship with
business and finance. In the wake of the many passionate responses
to its predecessor, Studies in Medievalism 22 also addresses the
role of corporations in medievalism. Amid the three opening essays,
Amy S. Kaufman examines how three modern novelists have refracted
contemporary corporate culture through an imagined and highly
dystopic Middle Ages. On either side of that paper, Elizabeth Emery
and Richard Utz explore how the Woolworth Company and Google have
variously promoted, distorted, appropriated, resisted, and
repudiated post-medieval interpretations of the Middle Ages. And
Clare Simmons expands on that approach in a full-length article on
the Lord Mayor's Show in London. Readers are then invited to find
other permutations of corporate influence in six articles on the
gendering of Percy's Reliques, the Romantic Pre-Reformation in
Charles Reade's The Cloister and the Hearth, renovation and
resurrection in M.R. James's "Episode of Cathedral History",
salvation in the Commedia references of Rodin's Gates of Hell, film
theory and the relationship of the Sister Arts to the cinematic
Beowulf, and American containment culture in medievalist
comic-books. While offering close, thorough studies of traditional
media and materials, the volume directly engages timely concerns
about the motives and methods behind this field and many others
inacademia. Karl Fugelso is Professor of Art History at Towson
University in Baltimore, Maryland. Contributors: Aida Audeh,
Elizabeth Emery, Katie Garner, Nickolas Haydock, Amy S. Kaufman,

Simon Murphy's thesis has significant impact on the wide use of the
revolutionary Kepler Mission data, leading to a new understanding
in stellar astrophysics. It first provides a deep characterisation
and comparison of the Kepler long cadence and short cadence data,
with particular insight into the Kepler reduction pipeline. It then
brings together modern reviews of rotation and peculiarities in
A-type stars, and their relationship with the pulsating delta Scuti
stars. This is the first combined review of these subjects since
the classic monograph by Sydney Wolff, "The A stars," was published
three decades ago. The thesis presents a novel technique,
Super-Nyquist Asteroseismology, that has opened up the
asteroseismic study of thousands of Kepler stars. It shows case
studies of delta Scuti stars examining amplitude growth,
super-Nyquist pulsation, and pulsation in a high-amplitude,
population II SX Phoenicis star in a 343-d binary. This work
informs our understanding of the relation of rotation to
peculiarity, hence has applications to atomic diffusion theory.
This is a brilliant thesis written in an elegant and engaging
style.
