This biography of Thomas E. Ware covers (78) years of relentless
struggle for achievement and success in a segregated society on the
streets of Washington D.C. Starting in 1929 and ending in 2007. As
his younger brother I was blessed to grow up with him and watch him
skillfully work his way through numerous Jim Crow policies,
educational barriers, adversity and police intimidation. (Excerpts
from passages in the book) Chap. 5 During the 1930's 1201 was a
land mark stop over point for family members migrating from the
south. At one point I counted five families with twenty-three
people living in our four bedroom home, I slept in the bathroom
tub. While others slept on floor pallets. Chap.3 The highlight of
our corner experience was the appearance of the local police. As
they got closer to our group some one would yell "police" and we
would scatter and hide. After passing us, some one would yell "all
clear," and we would return. One day, Tom said we have not done
anything wrong, why should we run every time we see a policeman?
I'm not going to run anymore Nervously, I sat with him. Chap. 1
When we were little guys, I remember Tom telling me "There is no
Santa Claus." This is all a game, but I want my toys on Christmas
Day. I said yes there is a Santa Claus, look at all the toys he
brought us last year. Tom said; alright tell me how a group of
reindeer can fly through the air with no engine power or wings? And
how can Santa bring toys to all the kids on our block in his small
sled, and how can a big fat Santa slide down our small chimney? We
decided to wait up for Santa on Christmas Eve. Finally we say our
parents placing toys under the tree for us. We knew then that our
parents were Santa Claus. We still rejoiced on Christmas morning. I
am pleased that my survival in life is attributed to the life goals
that he set for himself, but I followed. His inner strength,
tenacity, and visionary leadership were helpful to many people
whose lives he touched. He was a courageous, remarkable man. James
J. Ware Jr.
This book reviews recent breakthroughs in anti-cancer drug
discovery. Building on the previous volume in the series, it
outlines some of the most significant developments that have
occurred in the field in the subsequent period that have led to new
drug approvals or promising clinical candidates. The volume is
divided into chapters that each relate to a specific protein or
protein class. Each chapter provides an overview of the underlying
biology and then emphasises the medicinal chemistry strategies and
tactics that led to the most significant drugs and drug candidates.
A summary of clinical data and the future outlook for the field is
also provided. Each chapter is authored by experts in the topic and
who have themselves made significant contributions to their
respective fields.

with the hope of going to Heaven at death and many of them envision
heaven as their final home. Thus, funerals are called "home-going
services." They see themselves heading upward in a golden chariot
or a fast moving train. . The Morning Train is symbolic of an early
departure from a world of pain and sorrow. They look forward to a
city where the streets are paved with gold. Many of the poems cover
my personal reflections and eyewitness accounts of events observed
during 52 years of marriage, 22 years in the military 50 years in
the ministry and 74 years of life.
Arbitration Law in America: A Critical Assessment is a source of
arguments and practical suggestions for changing the American
arbitration process. The book argues that the 80 year-old Federal
Arbitration Act badly needs major changes. The authors, who have
previously written major articles on arbitration law and policy,
here set out their own views and argue among themselves about the
necessary reforms of arbitration. The book contains draft
legislation for use in international and domestic arbitration and a
detailed explanation of the precise justifications for proposed
legislative changes. It also contains two proposals that might be
deemed radical - to ban arbitration related to the purchase of
products by consumers and to prohibit arbitration of employment
disputes. Each proposal is vetted fully and critiqued by one or
more of the other co-authors.

It has been recognized for almost 200 years that certain families
seem to inherit cancer. It is only in the past decade, however,
that molecular genetics and epidemiology have combined to define
the role of inheritance in cancer more clearly, and to identify
some of the genes involved. The causative genes can be tracked
through cancer-prone families via genetic linkage and positional
cloning. Several of the genes discovered have subsequently been
proved to play critical roles in normal growth and development.
There are also implications for the families themselves in terms of
genetic testing with its attendant dilemmas, if it is not clear
that useful action will result. The chapters in this work
illustrate what has already been achieved and take a critical look
at the future directions of this research and its potential
clinical applications.
This book provides an up-to-date and comprehensive account of
aromatic chemistry. A series of chapters describes the synthesis
and reactions of the major functional derivatives of benzene and
the more common polycyclic systems. The concept of aromaticity and
the mechanism of aromatic substitution are discussed, as is the use
of metals in the synthesis of aromatic compounds. Throughout,
emphasis is placed on mechanisms. Worked problems and questions are
provided to aid understanding. In addition to providing material
required by an undergraduate studying chemistry, Aromatic Chemistry
is also ideal for industrial chemists seeking to update their
knowledge of this important aspect of chemistry. Ideal for the
needs of undergraduate chemistry students, Tutorial Chemistry Texts
is a major new series consisting of short, single topic or modular
texts concentrating on the fundamental areas of chemistry taught in
undergraduate science courses. Each book provides a concise account
of the basic principles underlying a given subject, embodying an
independent-learning philosophy and including worked examples.
