Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

Our book is devoted to the topological fixed point theory both for
single-valued and multivalued mappings in locally convex spaces,
including its application to boundary value problems for ordinary
differential equations (inclusions) and to (multivalued) dynamical
systems. It is the first monograph dealing with the topo- logical
fixed point theory in non-metric spaces. Although the theoretical
material was tendentially selected with respect to ap- plications,
we wished to have a self-consistent text (see the scheme below).
There- fore, we supplied three appendices concerning
almost-periodic and derivo-periodic single-valued {multivalued)
functions and (multivalued) fractals. The last topic which is quite
new can be also regarded as a contribution to the fixed point
theory in hyperspaces. Nevertheless, the reader is assumed to be at
least partly famil- iar in some related sections with the notions
like the Bochner integral, the Au- mann multivalued integral, the
Arzela-Ascoli lemma, the Gronwall inequality, the Brouwer degree,
the Leray-Schauder degree, the topological (covering) dimension,
the elemens of homological algebra, ...Otherwise, one can use the
recommended literature. Hence, in Chapter I, the topological and
analytical background is built. Then, in Chapter II (and partly
already in Chapter I), topological principles necessary for
applications are developed, namely: the fixed point index theory
(resp. the topological degree theory), the Lefschetz and the
Nielsen theories both in absolute and relative cases, periodic
point theorems, topological essentiality, continuation-type
theorems.

have long been considered as the most highly specialized of all
living cells. They surely are, being very diverse, very complex,
containing organelles which do not exist in any other cell -such as
acrosome or crystallized mitochondria- and being endowed with a
very unique behaviour, that is to meet and recognize the ovum,
pierce its protective envelopes and inject into its cytoplasm a
most precious deposit, the haploid genome of the species. It is
Baccio Baccetti's merit to have felt the need for a confrontation
of the scientists working on sperm in order to clarify the apparent
complexity of the enormous amount of knowledge accumulated on the
subject. Thus, he successfully inaugurated the series of the
InternationaZ Symposia on SpermatoZogy. The Seillac edition is the
fourth in the series. After an initial stage during which
morphology was predominant, our meetings have turned more and more
towards function. It has been the will of the French Organizing
Committee to devote this meeting mainly to Eutherians, and, among
those, to man, in connection with the conflicting necessities to
help the sterile couples and to contrul the population explosion at
the surface of the world.

This monograph provides a novel approach to the evaluation of
economic policy by combining two different analytical strategies.
On the one hand, the computable general equilibrium (CGE) analysis,
a standard tool mostly used to quantify the impact of economic
measures or changes in the structural data of the economy. On the
other hand, the multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach,
an op- misation technique that deals with problems with more than
one objective. Ty- cally, CGE is well suited for the analysis of
the interactions of multiple agents from the point of view of a
planner single objective. Combining this technique with the MCDM
approach allows developing models in which we ?nd many interacting
agents and a decision maker with several objectives. The
contribution of this work is partly methodological and partly
applied. It provides a framework for the analysis of this type of
problems, as well as a series of applications in which the strength
of the approach is made clear. The consideration of environmental
problems, as a speci?c ?eld in which this technique of analysis can
be used, is particularly well chosen. The environmental concern
keeps growing steadily and has already become an issue in most of
