The Reign of Constantius II will appeal to those interested in the
Later Roman Empire, the Constantinian imperial family,
Roman-Sasanian relations, and the role of religion in shaping
imperial dynamics with Christianity / This book examines the
dynastic, political and cultural impact of Constantius' reign as a
member of the Constantinian family on the later empire, first as a
joint ruler with his brothers and then as sole Augustus / The
over-arching aim is to investigate power in the post-Constantine
period, and the way in which imperial and episcopal networks
related to one another with the ambition of participating in the
exercise of power.
This practical and forward-focused book presents a framework that
uses social infrastructure to produce effective and inclusive
professional development options in education. Although technology
has increased our capacity for social networking both in the
digital space and face-to-face, Kira J. Baker-Doyle contends that
most professional development opportunities for educators are still
fundamentally asocial. She calls for the adoption of humanizing
network practices to create meaningful continuing education
experiences that leverage the collective knowledge, expertise, and
social capital of educators to spark educational change.
Baker-Doyle shows how the critical network literacy (CNL) framework
overlays critical theory, multiliteracies theory, and social
network theory in a way that encourages critical reflection and
collaboration among participants. She draws from sources including
empirical studies of teacher educators and teacher activists,
meta-analytical studies of social network research in education,
and professional experience with collective organizing efforts, to
detail the many benefits of cultivating CNL in educational spaces.
Baker-Doyle provides evidence of how the framework’s practices
and protocols can increase transparency, improve representation,
and incorporate affirmation and restoration discourse. Her work
demonstrates how CNL helps create environments that honor
teachers’ social identities, their social networks, and the
broader social context in which they work. This thought-provoking
book is filled with exercises that reinforce social competencies,
questions that prompt dialogue and understanding, and real-world
examples that underscore the framework's relevance to key
educational practices. The generous guidance offered in Critical
Network Literacy can be used as a launching point to promote
innovation and leadership in teaching.Â

and Law with special reference to criminal justice. It brings
together leading international experts including computer
scientists, lawyers, judges and cyber-psychologists. The book
examines some of the core problems that technology raises for
criminal law ranging from privacy and data protection, to
cyber-warfare, through to the theft of virtual property. Focusing
on the West and China, the work considers the issue of AI and the
Law in a comparative context presenting the research from a
cross-jurisdictional and cross-disciplinary approach. As China
becomes a global leader in AI and technology, the book provides an
essential in-depth understanding of domestic laws in both Western
jurisdictions and China on criminal liability for cybercrime. As

Large-Scale Evacuation introduces the reader to the steps involved
in evacuation modelling for towns and cities, from understanding
the hazards that can require large-scale evacuations, through
understanding how local officials decide to issue evacuation
advisories and households decide whether to comply, to
transportation simulation and traffic management strategies. The
author team has been recognized internationally for their research
and consulting experience in the field of evacuations.
Collectively, they have 125 years of experience in evacuation,
including more than 140 projects for federal and state agencies.
The text explains how to model evacuations that use the road
transportation network by combining perspectives from social
scientists and transportation engineers, fields that have commonly
approached evacuation modelling from distinctly different
perspectives. In doing so, it offers a step-by-step guide through
the key questions needed to model an evacuation and its impacts to
the evacuation route system as well as evacuation management
strategies for influencing demand and expanding capacity. The
authors also demonstrate how to simulate the resulting traffic and
evacuation management strategies that can be used to facilitate
evacuee movement and reduce unnecessary demand. Case studies, which
identify key points to analyze in an evacuation plan, discuss
evacuation termination and re-entry, and highlight challenges that
someone developing an evacuation plan or model should expect, are
also included. This textbook will be of interest to researchers,
practitioners, and advanced students.

This book presents arguments and proposals for constraining
criminalization, with a focus on the legal limits of the criminal
law. The book approaches the issue by showing how the moral
criteria for constraining unjust criminalization can and has been
incorporated into constitutional human rights and thus provides a
legal right not to be unfairly criminalized. The book sets out the
constitutional limits of the substantive criminal law. As far as
specific constitutional rights operate to protect specific
freedoms, for example, free speech, freedom of religion, privacy,
etc, the right not to be criminalized has proved to be a rather
powerful justice constraint in the U.S. Yet the general right not
to be criminalized has not been fully embraced in either the U.S.
or Europe, although it does exist. This volume lays out the legal
foundations of that right and the criteria for determining when the
state might override it. The book will be of interest to
researchers in the areas of legal philosophy, criminal law,
constitutional law, and criminology.
Marine Biomedicine: From Beach to Bedside assesses current efforts
in marine biomedicine and evaluates the implications of recent
advances on the future of the field. Richly illustrated in full
color to enhance reader comprehension, the book covers four
sections. The first one addresses the technology that has recently
been brought to bear on the study of marine natural products,
including omics and bioinformatic techniques. The second focuses on
lead discovery and reviews various products and their biomedical
potential. Examples of clinically successful marine products and
discussions of approaches to the clinic are presented in the third
section while the last section discusses prospects for the future
of marine biodiscovery. Highlighting new technologies, this
valuable resource provides an overview of both what is currently
possible in the field as well as a detailed look at what is being
done in marine natural products research.
Originally published in 1981. Risk is a problem which all business
decision makers have to cope with. The problem is not
insurmountable, however, as there now exist well-established
techniques for minimising risk and for calculating which of various
available options is the optimal one to pursue. This book outlines
and discusses these techniques and the theories behind them. Unlike
many economic theories which only rarely have any practical
applications, the techniques put forward in this book can be used
by real businessmen to solve real business problems. The book
concentrates on decision-making in two main areas: the allocation
of a firm's resources and the selection of new investments; and the
techniques and theories discussed fall into three broad groups:
linear programming, decision theory and capital market theory.
Intended as an advanced undergraduate textbook for students taking
business economics or managerial economics courses, this valuable
book will interest specialists and students involved in management
studies, microeconomics, strategic planning, operational research,
accounting and MBA programmes.
In recent years, a growing number of children and adults have been
diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, a neurological condition
characterized by severe difficulties with social communication.
While extremely talented in their areas of special interest, many
with the diagnosis also have problems with coordination and sensory
processing. Professionals and families struggle to help them
function competently and make the most of their unique abilities.
This readable and practical book synthesizes the latest knowledge
about how to do so in various contexts from early childhood on. The
authors include psychologists, psychiatrists, special educators, an
occupational therapist, a specialist in communication disorders,
and a lawyer, with diverse philosophies and methods of
intervention. They suggest a variety of ways to help those with
Asperger's adapt to the "neurotypical" world, and to bridge the
social chasms that can develop as they are integrated into schools,
organizations, and communities.
"Asperger's Syndrome: Intervening in Schools, Clinics, and
Communities" constitutes a vital new resource for all those who
seek to improve the lives of individuals with the syndrome.

The interdisciplinary field of marine chemical ecology is an expanding and dynamic science. It is no surprise that the breadth of marine organisms studied expanded in concert with developments in underwater technology. With its up-to-date subject reviews by experts, Marine Chemical Ecology is the most current, comprehensive book on the subject. The book provides cellular, physiological, organismal, evolutionary, and applied perspectives creating a high-resolution snapshot of the field at the start of the 21st century.
The introductory section provides a broad phylogenic overview of marine organic chemistry. With its emphasis on evolutionary, ecological, and biosynthetic considerations, it sets a foundation for the chapters that follow. The second section takes an organismal approach to understanding the role of secondary metabolites in mediating trophic interrelationships. Section three reviews cellular and physiological aspects of marine chemical ecology. The final section discusses practical applications.
Fully detailed with figures, tables, and chemical structural diagrams, the book's coverage spans aspects of marine ecology from molecular to community levels, bridging diverse disciplines. Written by an international panel, Marine Chemical Ecology provides a conceptual synthesis and overview of the discipline. You get an integrated perspective of the current state of the field, and its future.

Throughout the world cotton is broadly adapted to growing in
temperate, sub-tropical, and tropical environments, but growth may
be challenged by future climate change. Production may be directly
affected by changes in crop photosynthesis and water use due to
rising CO2 and changes in regional temperature patterns. Indirect
effects may result from a range of government regulations aimed at
climate change mitigation. While there is certainty that future
climate change will impact cotton production systems; there will be
opportunities to adapt. This review begins to provide details for
the formation of robust frameworks to evaluate the impact of
projected climatic changes, highlight the risks and opportunities
with adaptation, and details the approaches for investment in
research. Ultimately, it is a multi-faceted systems-based approach
that combines all elements of the cropping system that will provide
the best insurance to harness the change that is occurring, and
best allow cotton industries worldwide to adapt. Given that there
will be no single solution for all of the challenges raised by
climate change and variability, the best adaptation strategy for
industry will be to develop more resilient systems. Early
implementation of adaptation strategies, particularly in regard to
enhancing resilience, has the potential to significantly reduce the
negative impacts of climate change now and in the future.
As a follow up to Volume 7, contributors continue to explore the
latest developments in developmental psychology. Here, researchers
focus on the integration of theory and research and evaluates

Arising from a research project on depression in the eighteenth
century, this book discusses the experience of depressive states
both in terms of existing modes of thought and expression, and of
attempts to describe and live with suffering. It also asks what
present-day society can learn about depression from the
eighteenth-century experience.
