Worldwide, men have more opportunities, privileges, and power, yet
they also have shorter life expectancies than women. Why is this?
Why are there stark differences in the burden of disease, quality
of life, and length of life amongst men, by race, ethnicity,
(dis)ability status, sexual orientation, gender identity, rurality,
and national context? Why is this a largely unexplored area of
research? Men's Health Equity is the first volume to describe men's
health equity as a field of study that emerged from gaps in and
between research on men's health and health inequities. This
handbook provides a comprehensive review of foundations of the
field; summarizes the issues unique to different populations;
discusses key frameworks for studying and exploring issues that cut
across populations in the United States, Australia, Canada, the
United Kingdom, Central America, and South America; and offers
strategies for improving the health of key population groups and
achieving men's health equity overall. This book systematically
explores the underlying causes of these differences, describes the
specific challenges faced by particular groups of men, and offers
policy and programmatic strategies to improve the health and
well-being of men and pursue men's health equity. Men's Health
Equity will be the first collection to present the state of the
science in this field, its progress, its breadth, and its future.
This book is an invaluable resource for scholars, researchers,
students, and professionals interested in men's health equity,
men's health, psychology of men's health, gender studies, public
health, and global health.
This book provides an account of the field of synchronized
Phasor Measurement technology, its beginning, its technology and
its principal applications. It covers wide Area Measurements (WAM)
and their applications. The measurements are done using GPS systems
and eventually will replace the existing technology. The authors
created the field about twenty years ago and most of the
installations planned or now in existence around the world are
based on their work.

Appalling and tragic, Ognjen Spahic's exceptional short novel
animates the misery of Ceasescu's Romania and its inglorious fall
with a metaphor fully up to the task: leprosy. Gerhard Henrik
Armauer Hansen was a Norwegian scientist who isolated the
Mycobacterium leprae in 1873 and his 'children' are the tragic
sufferers of this ghastly disease. In Spahic's novel, it's 1989 and
a dozen of them are confined to the last leper house in Europe, an
under-equipped facility located in a miserable corner of South
Eastern Romania overlooking a toxic fertilizer factory. Here our
nameless narrator shares a room with fellow-sufferer Robert W.
Duncan, an American intelligence officer whose career was ruined
after he was captured by Communists in Berlin. But Duncan still has
a few contacts in the shadowlands, notably 'Mr Smooth' who has it
in his power to liberate the two men by supplying passports and
helping them out of the country. Blending Romania's turbulent 1989
revolution with a lyrical fiction that both shocks and enthrals,
Montenegrin author Ognjen Spahic offers an allegorical page to
Southeastern Europe's intriguing scrapbook. In 'Hansen's Children',
the downfall of Nicolae Ceausescu's repressive control is witnessed
from behind the walls of Europe's sole leper-colony. Powerless
against forces beyond the leprosarium, the rebellious political
change seen across the country influences and erodes the camp's
brittle harmony.
Author Michael J. Thorp turns railroad history on its ear with this
delightful and slightly scary tale of an oversize huckleberry and
the people who see it, and have to decide whether to tell anyone
what they saw. A little history, a little fantasy and a whole lot
of fun. Do you believe in the Abominable Huckleberry?
