The inducible isoforms of the enzymes cyclooxygenase (COX 2),
nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) have
generated great interest as possible therapeutic targets in
inflammation. This book is the first publication to address the
importance of all three enzymes and the consequences of their
interactions to the inflammatory process. The book brings together
overviews by leading researchers in the field of the current status
of knowledge of COX, NOS and HO in inflammation. These overviews
cover a series of new concepts in the mechanism of inflammation.
Topics include inducible enzyme involvement in inflammatory
processes including the role in vascular permeability, leukocycte
migration, granuloma formation, angiogenesis, neuroinflammation and
algesia. New findings from transgenic animal models are reviewed.
Other chapters address the importance of these enzymes in
inflammatory disease states including rheumatoid arthritis,
atherosclerosis and multiple sclerosis. The possibility of
selective inhibitors or inducers of COX, NOS and HO, and their use
in the clinic is discussed. The subject matter of this book is of
interest to rheumatologists, pathologists, pharmacologists,
neuroscientists and anyone with an academic interest in the
mechanisms of inflammation.
Basic income is an innovative, powerful egalitarian response to
widening global inequalities and poverty experiences in society,
one that runs counter to the neoliberal transformations of modern
welfare states, social security, and labor market programs. This
book is the first collective volume of its kind to ask whether a
basic income offers a viable solution to the income support systems
in Australia and New Zealand. Though often neglected in discussions
of basic income, both countries are advanced liberal democracies
dominated by neoliberal transformations of the welfare state, and
therefore have great potential to advance debates on the topic. The
contributors' essays and case studies explore the historical basis
on which a basic income program might stand in these two countries,
the ideological nuances and complexities of implementing such a
policy, and ideas for future development that might allow the
program to be put into practice regionally and applied
internationally.

It is now routine to offer men the opportunity to bank sperm prior
to medical treatments where there is a high risk of testicular
damage. Some men also elect to bank sperm prior to vasectomy or
before embarking on a high-risk activity, such as joining the armed
services. This book examines the processes involved in banking
sperm from sample production and storage, the subsequent treatment
of the patient and the maintenance of the samples in storage, to
the process of follow-up and the ultimate fate of frozen samples.
Sperm Banking: Theory and Practice will be of particular interest
to andrologists and embryologists involved in the running and
establishment of sperm-banking services. The book will also be
useful to medical and nursing professionals and counsellors
involved in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions where there
is a risk of infertility as a consequence of the treatment,
including oncologists, hematologists and urologists.
