From the 39th annual conference of the International Society on
Oxygen Transport to Tissue (ISOTT), held in Washington, DC, USA in
July 2011, this volume covers aspects of oxygen transport from air
to the cells, organs and organisms; instrumentation and methods to
sense oxygen and clinical evidence. Oxygen Transport to Tissue
XXXIV includes contributions from scientists (physicists,
biologists and chemists), engineers, clinicians and mathematicians.

Targeted Molecular Imaging covers the development of novel
diagnostic approaches that use an imaging probe and agent to
noninvasively visualize cellular processes in normal and disease
states. It discusses the concept, development, preclinical studies,
and, in many cases, translation to the clinic of targeted imaging
agents. The many case studies that form the core of this book deal
with the development and translation of non-nuclear probes and
radiotracers; other sections address critical topics such as In
vitro studies, small animal research, and the application of
targeted probes for nuclear, optical and MRI imaging. The chapters
use a common format to demonstrate how various investigators
approach the comprehensive task of validating a new targeted probe.
Targeted Molecular Imaging is a timely resource for a rapidly
advancing field, and addresses: Various methods of validating a new
targeted probe through examples from human studies with imaging of
breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegenerative
diseases Basic principles, disease models, imaging studies in
animals, imaging in initial human studies, and the application of
molecular imaging in pharmacy and drug discovery In vitro studies,
small animal studies, and targeted radiopharmaceuticals Using these
case studies, investigators can generalize and apply the
information to their own specific targeted probe. The insights
provided by the contributors, experts who have developed these
approaches in their own groups, help guide scientists planning to
translate imaging agents from the concept stage to clinical
application.
The second edition maintains the standard of excellence established
in the first edition, while adjusting the content to reflect
changes in tissue optics and medical applications since 1995. The
material concerning light propagation now contains new chapters
devoted to electromagnetic theory for coherent light. The material
concerning thermal laser-tissue interactions contains a new chapter
on pulse ablation of tissue. The medical applications section now
includes several new chapters on Optical Coherent Tomography,
acoustic imaging, molecular imaging, forensic optics and nerve
stimulation. A detailed overview is provided of the optical and
thermal response of tissue to laser irradiation along with
diagnostic and therapeutic examples including fiber optics.
Sufficient theory is included in the book so that it is suitable
for a one or two semester graduate or for senior elective courses.
Material covered includes (1) light propagation and diagnostic
application; (2) the thermal response of tissue and therapeutic
application; (3) denaturation; and (4) ablation. The theory and
applications provide researchers with sufficient detail that this
volume will become the primary reference for laser-tissue
interactions and medical applications.

Step into the unique and magical realm called Vethia. It was the
first realm created as a prototype for all other worlds. Each new
being was created in Vethia, before they were given a land to rule.
Therefore this massive world is filled with many different
creatures. In the frozen northlands of Vethia exists an ancient
city called Ralk. Ralk has been savagely attacked by demons whose
true motive is unclearly. It is now up to the Lords of the city to
decide the fate of their kingdom which has been threatened by a
species of lizard men. Blake Cathel and his family are blacksmiths
of Ralk who are caught up in the oncoming conflict with the lizard
men. Blake and his brothers eventually prove their skills to the
Lords of Ralk and are asked to join the council of Lords. This
story follows their incredible journey from, blacksmiths, to
knights and eventually Lords of the most powerful city in the
north.
Re-design and upgrade your collection and services to attract male
teens, as well as females, to the library. With this guide, you'll
learn about reading habits of young men, male-friendly collection
development with fiction and nonfiction materials, teen advisory
boards, teen area design and display, programs that bring male
teens into the library, homework services, diversity of male teens,
and how to redefine library policies, procedures, and attitudes to
create an environment where male teens thrive. Filled with
insights, anecdotes, practical guidelines, and tips that show how
to make the library a facility where male teens feel welcome and
comfortable.
Radical Conflict addresses conflict at interpersonal and communal,
legal and rhetorical, ethnopolitical, global, and geopolitical
levels. The conflicts analyzed are "radical" because in each some
intense and often prolonged violence takes place. The chapters
address different kinds of violence(s)-physical and gratuitous,
structural and socio-economic, legal and symbolic, all with
significant ill effects and injustices that spiral in all
directions. All share an interest in exploring imaginatively and
speculatively what can be done to attenuate such cycles of
violence. The volume analyzes how recurrent narratives,
mythologies, media(ted) constructions and other discourse(s) of
liberal democratic and authoritarian states play a significant role
in exacerbating or thwarting violence, exposing, escalating,
legitimizing, rationalizing, propagating, but also possibly
mitigating violence in all of its forms. Each contributor provides
a critical interpretation of the status of the conflict under
inquiry, including: a teacher verbally abusing and ridiculing a
student then exposing it in social media; a community torn apart by
environmental disaster; the incommensurate but not incommensurable
conflict between Israelis and Palestinians; the Muslim Brotherhood
and the militarized state(s) of Egypt and Libya; urban discourses
in cyberspace among Moroccan and Maghreb youth that have become
counter-signifying publics against oppression of the state; the
role of media and violence in Zimbabwe's political struggle; the
impact of the Circassian diaspora in global politics especially in
the United States; India's soft power approach to the Kashmir
conflict as a way to capitalize on it through tourism; the
agonistic discourses that pervade the conflict over the Sahara and
deprive Sahrawi people of rights; and how the liberal state is
implicated in the gratuitous violence of ISIL. The volume also
offers a section on the rhetoric of exclusionary laws associated
with intractable conflicts of the abortion conflict, the right to
die controversy, and a Burkean perspective on violence in
Bangladesh. Contributors suggest what can be done conceptually and
politically to mitigate and end violations of those who are most
vulnerable, banished, forgotten, damaged, and often silenced.
Based on a thorough reading of Cyril's Commentary on John, Lawrence
Welch's analysis constitutes a compelling reconsideration of Cyril
of Alexandria's early Christology. Challenging the traditional
Logos-Sarx framework of study, Dr. Welch argues that for Cyril, the
doctrine of the person of Christ cannot be considered apart from
the doctrine of salvation or from the doctrine of Church's worship.
