Triple bill of horror movies. 'Hiding' (2012) stars Ana Villafaņe
as a young woman attempting to begin a new life following the
brutal murder of her parents. Taken into the care of a witness
protection programme, a new identity is established for Jo
(Villafaņe) in Montana and she leaves her home in New York and her
past life behind. Unfortunately, when a man known as Mr Ostrog
(Dean Armstrong) appears and begins to take an interest in her, Jo
could be forgiven for thinking that the protection programme has
failed to keep her identity safe from the man she is due to testify
against. In 'The Victim' (2011) Annie (Jennifer Blanc)'s camping
trip with her friend, Mary (Danielle Harris), goes disastrously
wrong when Mary is savagely attacked and Annie witnesses her
murder. As she flees through the woods from pursuers Harrison (Ryan
Honey) and Cooger (Denny Kirkwood), Annie comes across a small
cabin inhabited by the loner Kyle (Michael Biehn), but will he help
her or hinder her? 'Beneath the Dark' (2010) is a psychological
thriller from first-time director Chad Feehan. Driving through the
Mojave Desert on their way to the wedding of an old college friend,
Paul and Adrienne (Josh Stewart and Jamie-Lynn Sigler) stop for the
night at Roy's Motel. Confronted by a surreal atmosphere and their
equally strange hosts, Frank and Sandy (Chris Browning and Angela
Featherstone), Paul begins to feel uneasy about his new
surroundings and wonders what lies in store for them.

The Data Protection and Medical Research in Europe: PRIVIREAL
series focuses on the 'Privacy in Research Ethics and Law'
EC-funded project examining the implementation of Directive
95/46/EC on data protection in relation to medical research and the
role of ethics committees in European countries. The series
consists of five separate volumes following the complete
development of the PRIVIREAL project. This volume relates to the
first stage of this project concerning the implementation of the
Data Protection Directive, in particular in the area of medical
research. It contains reports from 26 European countries on the
implementation of the Directive, or the data protection regime, all
with a specific focus on issues and questions relating to medical
research. Presenting a unique resource for all those involved in
data protection, medical research and their implications for each
other, this title provides a valuable insight into the actual
workings across Europe, including both the New Member States and
the Newly Associated Member States.
This book focuses on ways to better manage and prevent
aircraft-based homicide events while in flight using alternate
technology to replace the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and/or
Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) functions. While these events
are infrequent, the implementation of real-time predictive
maintenance allows aircraft operators to better manage both
scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events. Aviation Safety and
Security: Utilizing Technology to Prevent Aircraft Fatality
explores historical events of in-flight homicide and includes
relevant accident case study excerpts from the National
Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Air Accidents Investigation
Branch (AAIB). FEATURES Explores historical events of in-flight
homicide and offers solutions for ways to mitigate risk Explains
how alternate technologies can be implemented to address in-flight
safety issues Demonstrates that metrics for change are not solely
for safety but also for financial savings for aircraft operation

The concept of God's two kingdoms was foundational to Luther and
subsequent Lutheran theology. Since the middle of the nineteenth
century, that concept has been understood primarily as a political
concept. But is a political reading of the two kingdoms a
perversion of Luther's teaching?
Leading Reformation scholar William Wright contends that those who
read Luther politically and see in Luther a compartmentalized
approach to Christian life are misreading the Reformer. Wright
reassesses the original breadth of Luther's theology of the two
kingdoms and the cultural contexts from which it emerged. He argues
that Luther's two-kingdom worldview was not a justification for
living irresponsibly on planet earth.
While many books and articles are emerging on the new area of game
studies and the application of computer games to learning,
therapeutic, military, and entertainment environments, few have
attempted to contextualize the importance of virtual play within a
broader social, cultural, and political environment that raises the
question of the significance of work, play, power, and inequalities
in the modern world. Studies tend to concentrate on the content of
virtual games, but few have questioned how power is produced or
reproduced by publishers, gamers, or even social media; how social
exclusion (based on race, class, or gender) in the virtual
environment is reproduced from the real world; and how actors are
able to use new media to transcend their fears, anxieties,
prejudices, and assumptions. The articles presented by the
contributors in this volume represent cutting-edge research in the
area of critical game play with the hope of drawing attention to
the need for more studies that are both sociological and critical.

Few books have attempted to contextualize the importance of video
game play with a critical social, cultural and political
perspective that raises the question of the significance of work,
pleasure, fantasy and play in the modern world. The study of why
video game play is "fun" has often been relegated to psychology, or
the disciplines of cultural anthropology, literary and media
studies, communications and other assorted humanistic and social
science disciplines. In Utopic Dreams and Apocalyptic Fantasies,
Talmadge Wright, David Embrick and Andras Lukacs invites us to move
further and consider questions on appropriate methods of
researching games, understanding the carnival quality of modern
life, the role of marketing in altering game narratives, and the
role of fantasy and desire in modern video game play. Embracing an
approach that combines a cultural and/or critical studies approach
with a sociological understanding of this new media moves the
debate beyond simple media effects, moral panics, and industry
boosterism to one of asking critical questions, what does modern
video game play "mean," what questions should we be asking, and
what can sociological research contribute to answering these
questions. This collection includes works which use textual
analysis, audience based research, symbolic interactionism, as well
as political economic and psychoanalytic perspectives to illuminate
areas of inquiry that preserves the pleasure of modern play while
asking tough questions about what such pleasure means in a world
divided by political, economic, cultural and social inequalities.
Tribal Warfare thoroughly investigates a central element of the hit
reality television show Survivor that the existing literature on
reality television has overlooked: class politics. Christopher J.
Wright combines textual analysis and survey research to demonstrate
that Survivor operates and resonates as a political allegory. Using
the work of Fredric Jameson, this book reveals how Survivor frames
its "characters" as "haves" and "have-nots." For those new to
Jameson, Wright breaks down the theorist's complex notion of the
political unconscious into easily understandable language.
Furthermore, using the results of a survey of Survivor viewers,
Tribal Warfare demonstrates that viewers divide along gender,
racial, age, and-most significantly-class-related lines in their
consumption of, and reaction to, the program. The first book to
explore the premise of "Survivor as society," this unique work
serves as both an engaging analysis of a popular television program
and a highly readable primer for those new to critical theory.

Marine and coastal applications of GIS are finally gaining wide
acceptance in scientific as well as GIS communities, and cover the
fields of deep sea geology, chemistry and biology, and coastal
geology, biology, engineering and resource management. Comprising
rigorous contributions from a group of leading scholars in marine
and coastal GIS, this book will inspire and stimulate continued
research in this important new application domain.
Launched as a project to mark the UN International Year of the
Ocean (1998) and supported by the International Geographical
Union's Commission on Coastal Systems, this book covers progress
and research in the marine and coastal realms, in the areas of
theory, applications and empirical results. It is the first book of
its kind to address basic and applied scientific problems in deep
sea and coastal science using GIS and remote sensing technologies.
It is designed for GIS and remote sensing specialists, but also for
those with an interest in oceans, lakes and shores. Coverage ranges
from seafloor spreading centres to Exclusive Economic Zones to
microscale coastal habitats; and techniques include submersibles,
computer modelling, image display, 3-D temporal data visualization,
and development and application of new algorithms and spatial data
structures. It illustrates the broad usage of GIS, image
processing, and computer modelling in deep sea and coastal
environments, and also addresses important institutional issues
arising out of the use of these technologies.
'The series provides an outlet for high quality studies on GIS research that are longer than those normally published in academic journals'. - The Professional Geographer.
This book offers an up-to-date snapshot of the compexity of GIS applications in coastal and marine environments, and is particularly timely in 'setting the stage' at a point in time when more and more attention is being focused on using geospatial technologies to develop and improve our knowledge and understanding the complex. - David R. Green and Stephen D. King, The Geographical Journal, March 2002. Vol 168:1

God's Daring Dozen is the first children's picture book series ever
published on the minor prophets. The twelve books between Daniel
and Matthew are unfamiliar to many believers, so this series
accurately introduces these inspired writings with vivid images and
simple words that engage children and adults alike. Each volume
both retells the prophet's message to his original audience and
relates its rich truths to Jesus and God's people today. This
second boxed set contains: Jonah's Journeys, which teaches
compassion and encourages obedience. Malachi's Final Message, which
teaches respect for and hope in God. Nahum and the Ninevites, which
teaches the power and deliverance of God. Joel and the Locusts,
which teaches repentance and promises renewal. The first set
includes Haggai, Habakkuk, Zephaniah and Obadiah, and the final set
will include Hosea, Amos, Micah, and Zechariah. God's Daring Dozen
delivers enduring messages that are very much relevant today. These
biblically faithful, theologically rich, gospel-centered books
teach truth, promote virtue, and inspire faith in God and in His
Son. The minor prophets offer major lessons for all ages, and their
timeless truths are now shared in story book form for the very
first time!
The slow recovery from the recession of 2007-9 raises fundamental
economic and public policy concerns. Government Policies and the
Delayed Economic Recovery examines some possible causes of the weak
recovery and presents empirical evidence that too much policy
activism and other policy shortcomings have held back economic
growth. The book examines a wide range of policies that have led to
the delayed economic recovery, from increased regulation to
ineffective programs that have driven up the public debt. Although
their opinions are not always the same, together the contributors
reveal a common theme: the delayed recovery has been due to the
enactment of poor economic policies and the failure to implement
good ones. The authors conclude their analysis by providing a
framework for how policies should change to restore strong economic
growth.
