Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
This is the first scholarly edition of Browning's greatest collection of short poems, Men & Women. A comprehensive introduction shows how new research has unearthed material which throws fresh light on the composition and dates of such famous pieces as `Fra Lippo Lippi', `Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came', and `One Word More: To E.B.B.'. This edition uses a critical text based on that of Browning's final collection, and has detailed introductions to the individual poems. It is the fifth volume in the highly praised Poetical Works of Robert Browning.
Jack Roberts's detective novel is set in Szeged, in the South of
Hungary in 2000 and it represents the symbiosis of political and
personal life in post-Communist Hungary in a university context.
When the retired professor of history dies, the question of motive
is this: was the crime committed because of political or personal
reasons, and the reconstruction of the crime follows up both
agendas in minute detail. The text relies on the framework of the
hard-boiled detective novel to expose a difficult moral dilemma of
manipulation and being manipulated through tightly composed
psychological close-ups worthy of a Modernist novel. This mix of
features results in a very much regional but at the same time
philosophical novel.

Sheela-na-Gigs are carvings of female images depicted as naked and
posing in a manner which accentuates the most powerfully evocative
symbol of the vulva. They were erected on many churches of the
medieval period and invariably in a prominent position such as over
the main entrance door or a window. In Ireland where the practice
continued into the later middle ages, they are found on castles and
some other important structures. The sheela-na-gigs are primarily
sacred religious symbols but some historians have been reluctant to
treat them seriously. This book has been produced in the hope that
we may once again be able to look at, accept and fully appreciate
sheela-na-gigs and thereby begin to feel respect for these once
esteemed aspects of our heritage. The text is written from a
non-academic perspective and so aims to be accessible to the
general reader. The catalogue section of the book is a very
comprehensive aplphabetical listed reference to all known
sheela-na-gigs in Ireland and Britain. There are over 144 figures,
over a hundred in Ireland and 40 in Britain and each entry includes
a description, details of the location, and a drawing.
