Shallow water acoustics (SWA), the study of how low and medium
frequency sound propagates and scatters on the continental shelves
of the worlds oceans, has both technical interest and a large
number of practical applications. Technically, shallow water poses
an interesting medium for the study of acoustic scattering, inverse
theory, and propagation physics in a complicated oceanic waveguide.
Practically, shallow water acoustics has interest for geophysical
exploration, marine mammal studies, and naval applications.
Additionally, one notes the very interdisciplinary nature of
shallow water acoustics, including acoustical physics, physical
oceanography, marine geology, and marine biology. In this
specialized volume the authors, all of whom have extensive at-sea
experience in US and Russian research efforts, have tried to
summarize the main experimental, theoretical, and computational
results in shallow water acoustics, with an emphasis on providing
physical insight into the topics presented.
The Puppy Bomb, by James Lynch, follows Texas Ranger Jonah LeClaire
as he investigates the bizarre and brutal deaths of several Texas
state troopers. LeClaire investigates the murders while babysitting
a trooper who might be the next target or the primary suspect?
Every turn deepens the mystery as yet another trooper disappears,
motives become more elusive and the killings become more vicious.
The Puppy Bomb masterfully weaves the nuts and bolts of a first
class whodunit with the titillating backstory of male bonding gone
terribly wrong. Told with wry wit and twists and turns galore, The
Puppy Bomb keeps you guessing and wanting more.
One of the major problems facing societies, in almost all parts of
the world, is the inadequate accommodation of social equity with
cultural diversity. The crisis emanating from neglect of this issue
can be seen in all societies. The lack of discourse between the two
systems, cultural and social, means that there are fewer shared
ideologies, on the basis of which accommodations can be negotiated.
The inadequacy of those responses is the issue addressed by this
series of books. It seeks to contribute, through joint publication
and the stimulation of greater discourse, to identify the pathways
to a less selfish and parochial response to the continuing dilemma
of equity and diversity. In this fourth volume there are two major
foci within the field of education and schooling; human rights and
global responsibilities. The authors review, critically discuss and
seek to extend the theoretical and ideological assumptions,
underlying policy and practice in their chosen field, within the
context of these two foci. The aim of their testimony is to place
the life experience of teachers and children within a more globally
responsible and world-sensitive context, drawing out the
connections betw
At the end of the 1960s, Kenneth Allsop, a famous television
presenter and literary man-about-town, left London and settled amid
the sunken lanes, ancient forests and chalk streams of west Dorset.
He was at his very happiest here. He thought it the loveliest place
on earth, and for three years he devoted a weekly newspaper column
to his day-to-day life at the mill, brimming with humor and delight
for the wildlife which shared his home. In the Country is not
rustic or romantic. It is never unrealistic about agricultural
modernisation and social change in the countryside. Yet, steeped
with a deep sense of the past, Kenneth Allsop's writing speaks in
defense of the natural world and stands firmly against the
unchecked exploitation of the land. First published 1972 by Hamish
Hamilton.

reproduction and especially the dilemma between equity and

itself in a diversity of approaches to policy and practice in

A collection of writings the author wrote about 50 years ago,
mostly in 1969 and 1970 during his teenage years. It offers insight
into the times, as well as what an average teenager experienced
back then. Most writings also include the author's current thoughts
on the work. There is also a section at the end of sayings the
author derived at the time, based on his own experiences.
This delightful story shows that two young girls from different
backgrounds have a lot in common when they visit a zoo for the
first time. The author's endearing story-telling abilities, as well
as the artist's amazing full-color illustrations on every page, are
sure to please readers of all ages around the world. Rudell Kopp
published her Just Like Brothers series in 2009, which introduced
the readers to the families of two six-year-old boys. This Just
Like Sisters book is a continuation of the boys' tale as seen
through the eyes of the boys' younger sisters. Children accepting
difference, no matter what kind, is the book's important message
told in an engaging, fun way. The trilogy continues. The author's
fond childhood memories of train rides to the Philadelphia zoo with
her father, along with enjoying visits to the Jacksonville zoo with
her grandchildren, provided the inspiration for her third
children's book. "People of all ages can share in the wonder and
excitement of animals from all over the world in a zoo. Learning
while having fun is a great avenue for exploration."
A visitor has arrived in Tanjee with a strange accent, a quick
sword, and glowing blue eyes. He is just beginning to assimilate
himself into the local culture and develop a few friends when one
evening, he is unintentionally caught in a magical crossfire. He is
left with a dangerous and powerful artifact that he must somehow
break down and destroy, even as those who wish to keep it whole
seek to break down and destroy him. In the process he is
reluctantly befriended by a small tehlian woman, who has good
reason to feel that his entry into her life caused the complete
destruction of her career and position in her society. However,
with no one else to turn to, she slowly develops a respect for, and
eventually a deep abiding friendship with, this visitor who calls
himself Dragontayl, as they travel through many adventures in the
epic tale, A Scattering of Seeds.
Summer Adventures is the second book in this Just Like Brothers
series. Continuing the tale of these two little boys from different
backgrounds, we find that the core of the boys strength and love
grows beyond family. As the two boys look forward to having a whole
summer of exploration and fun, they find out about Bobby's dad's
plan for him and his little sister. The boys' joy turns to sadness
until their new friends, the barber shop guys, put their scheme
into action, with an even bigger surprise waiting to enter the
lives of this delightful pair. Again, the combination of engaging
full-color illustrations on every page by internationally-known
artist James Lynch, along with Rudell Kopp's ability to evoke
emotion in an endearing fashion, makes this a must-read for people
of all ages. The Just Like Sisters series will be released in the
fall of 2009 with Just Like Brothers The Beat Goes On to follow.
In the Beginning is the first book in this Just Like Brothers
series. It explores the lives of two six-year-old boys and their
families from different walks of life during their journey of
discovery and friendship. This timely tale shows how children are
open to finding common bonds even when others may not have the same
vision. The story is brought to life with engaging full-color
illustrations on every page by internationally-known artist James
Lynch. Rudell's background as an art specialist in several private
and public schools, as well as her theatre experience, enhances her
ability to evoke emotion in an endearing fashion. Her inspiration
for the series comes from her hope that people everywhere will look
within and reach out to others despite differences, whatever they
may be. Just Like Brothers...Summer Adventures will be released in

experiences during their growing up years. This series is a
