Emotion Coaching (EC) is a universal communication strategy which
supports children and young people to self-regulate and manage
their stress responses. Originally noticed as an effective way
parents communicated with their children around challenging
behaviours, Emotion Coaching has been shown to be highly successful
in educational settings too. This is why the authors pioneered the
research and application of Emotion Coaching into UK (primary and
secondary) schools and community settings. The book includes
straightforward descriptions and practical tips, with signposting
to resources, case studies and vignettes to illustrate its
practical application in educational settings. It supports adults
to promote empathetic responses to challenging behaviours and
situations, helping children and young people to understand their
emotions and learn to manage them and their behavior in the
longer-term.
As of 2016 the Department for Education (DfE) want to ensure all
trainee teachers have an understanding of emotional development and
attachment, and so this book presents the key concepts that are
essential for training in this area to ensure all teachers are up
to date. Attachment issues and mental health have a huge impact on
pupils' performance and so an understanding of young people's
emotional development is crucial for any teacher. Increasing
teachers understanding and skills around emotional development can
prevent many long term mental health difficulties in our schools
and in our communities. Key topics such as attachment theory,
emotion coaching, tackling disruptive behaviour and the trauma
continuum are introduced and explained, with advice and tips for a
classroom setting offered throughout. The experiences of
practitioners in the field are presented alongside those of
researchers, offering a range of diverse perspectives including
education, psychology and health. This is an essential text for
trainee and practising teachers.

"This book offers a unique and critical approach to the theme of
adults working in early years settings through a focus on seven key
dimensions encompassed in the term 'the plural practitioner'. The
discussion is strongly underpinned by a consideration of the two
important principles of child centredness and social justice. The
authors also draw on multiple perspectives, including the role of
neuroscience and socio cultural perspectives, to consider who these
early years professional are and the complexity of what they bring
to their work." Linda Miller, Professor Emeritus, Early Years, The
Open University, UKThis essential book focuses on the adult role
within early years education and care. The book introduces the
concept of the 'plural practitioner', which acknowledges that the
role of the adult in early years settings is complex and entails
many different responsibilities. The book argues that the 'plural
practitioner' can create quality early years provision by
implementing child-centred and socially just practices. The idea of
the 'plural practitioner' is embedded in theory and research,
providing a robust rationale and framework to help early years
practitioners understand of a range of theories and relate them to
their work with young children. The book includes: Discussion of
the seven different dimensions of the adult role - to help
practitioners reflect on the multiple and complex ways in which
they work with young children including: The Critical Reflector,
The Carer, The Communicator, The Facilitator, The Observer, The
Assessor and The Creator Key questions at the end of each chapter
to stimulate further reflection and reading Case study examples of
real practitioner experiences The Role of the Adult in Early Years
Settings will appeal to all students and practitioners either
planning to or currently working in early years settings and aiming

J, a troubled five-year-old living in Washington Heights, has a
life-long, daunting mission: use her mind-bending powers against
NASA scientists planning a premature leap for earth from the Atomic
to the Empath Age, harnessing the energy of -empathy to colonize
other planets. J is the protege of Telmx, a young woman Imari
warrior from an outside galaxy who arrives on Earth following the
bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, endows J with powerful empathy,
and eventually transforms from savior into extraterrestrial lover.
Through the time-traveling nightmares and hallucinations of J, the
anti-war demonstrations of the sixties, and Telmx's battle with the
violent Raymond, a rogue "Imari-turned-bad," the struggle for peace
in the universe ensues. "Beyond the Horse's Eye-a Fantasy Out of
Time" is only the start of a daring and controversial journey, a
race against time all too close to our own.
Janet frequently was asked by her curious grandchildren: "What was
it like growing up, Oma, when you were a little girl?" She realized
that as a 100% Italian American, she was obligated to teach her
eleven "Chickies" about their proud heritage. Therefore, she
decided to ensure that each Chickie should-and would-learn not only
about Oma's growing-up days, but also about heroic ancestors
leaving their homeland and coming to America to make a better life
for their yet-to-be-born progeny.
