The Expendables
Barney Ross leads the "Expendables", a band of highly skilled mercenaries including knife enthusiast Lee Christmas, martial arts expert Yin Yang, heavy weapons specialist Hale Caesar, demolitionist Toll Road and loose-cannon sniper Gunner Jensen. When the group is commissioned by the mysterious Mr. Church to assassinate the merciless dictator of a small South American island, Barney and Lee head to the remote locale to scout out their opposition. Once there, they meet with local rebel Sandra and discover the true nature of the conflict engulfing the city. When they escape the island and Sandra stays behind, Ross must choose to either walk away and save his own life - or attempt a suicidal rescue mission that might just save his soul.

But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them.

Peter Hyams directs this action movie starring Tom Everett Scott,
Orlando Jones and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Though former Navy SEAL
turned forest ranger Henry (Scott) may have thought his days of
high-octane encounters were over, the arrival of a drug cartel on
his territory suggests otherwise. The cartel, led by Xander (Van
Damme), are searching for a shipment of drugs that went missing in
the area and force Henry to help them. Complicating matters further
is the arrival on the scene of Clay (Jones), a man out for revenge
against Henry following a past dispute. Will the enemies be able to
work together to thwart the cartel?

A team of elite soldiers are used by the government to fight terrorism. With exceptional physical capabilities, they seem to be the perfect soldiers. But behind their existence there is a secret; they are not human, but fighting machines, created from the bodies of soldiers killed in the Vietnam war through the wonders of advanced genetic engineering.
But things begin to go wrong when two of the soldiers, Luc Devreux and Andrew Scott begin to regain their memory - and a violent feud that should have died years ago is reborn.

'n varkhok, van die vrye stad Brugge met sy knarsende uithangborde,
van haar moeder se boeke met hul smagtende liefdesverhale, van die
rooi sweertjies op haar toekomstige eggenoot se gesig en van die
haat vir haar bloedeie vader.

'A magnificent small book to read urgently' Liberation Once upon a
time in an enormous forest there lived a poor woodcutter and his
wife. Around them a war wages, and hunger is a constant companion.
Yet every night, the woodcutter's wife prays for a child. On a
train crossing the forest, a Jewish father holds his twin children.
His wife no longer has enough milk to feed them. In hopes of saving
both their lives, he wraps his daughter in a shawl and gently
throws her from the train. While foraging for food, the
woodcutter's wife finds a bundle, a baby girl wrapped in a shawl.
She knows that this little girl will be pursued, but she cannot
ignore this gift: she will accept the precious cargo, and raise her
as her own. . . Set against the horrors of the Holocaust and told
with a fairytale-like lyricism, The Most Precious of Cargoes,
translated from French by Frank Wynne, is a deeply moving fable
about family and redemption, a story that reminds us that humanity
can be found in the most inhumane of places.

Fabio Montale is the perfect protagonist in this city of melancholy
beauty. A disenchanted cop with an inimitable talent for living who
turns his back on a police force marred by corruption and racism
and, in the name of friendship, takes the fight against the mafia
into his own hands. "Just as Raymond Chandler and James Ellroy made
Los Angeles their very own, so Mr. Izzo has made Marseilles so much
more than just another geographical setting."-The Economist "Izzo's
ability to describe Marseilles and to make his readers feel the
multiracial reality of that city so directly and authentically is
fascinating."-Andrea Camilleri "One of the masterpieces of modern
noir."-The Washington Post
In an increasingly interconnected and global business environment,
it is crucial that businesses recognise how a better understanding
of cultural differences can help to foster greater business
success. This book will help you to develop essential
cross-cultural insights for when business and marketing goes global
through a range of frameworks and learning features. The
authors explore the roles of culture, communication, language,
interactions, decision-making, market entry and business planning
when working across geographical regions. They recognise the rich
diversity in international markets and local consumer knowledge and
marketing practices. Readers are encouraged to engage in cultural
self-reflection to help better design and implement business
strategies in local markets. Throughout, the book links to the
x-culture learning project, which is an experiential multicultural
exercise and form of student assessment where collaborative virtual
teams are formed and together solve real world international
business problems. This is an essential textbook for university and
college students of international and cross-cultural marketing as
well as international and intercultural business. It will also be
of interest to business and marketing practitioners working in
global contexts.
