This Major Reference series brings together a wide range of key international articles in law and legal theory. Many of these essays are not readily accessible, and their presentation in these volumes will provide a vital new resource for both research and teaching. Each volume is edited by leading international authorities who explain the significance and context of articles in an informative and complete introduction.

Research and development in the area of Power MEMS has been driven by the need for compact power sources with high energy and power density. The seminal research in the field has been conducted at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Multi-Wafer Rotating MEMS Machines: Turbines, Generators, and Engines describes the collaboration and research that was developed to produce the MIT Gas Turbine Engine. The MIT Gas Turbine Engine is intended to be a power MEMS device that will produce 10 Watts or more of electrical power from a shirt-button-sized package. This device is a gas-turbine engine that drives an integrated electric generator. Both the engine and generator are fabricated from silicon using a combination of bulk and surface microfabrication technologies. The book will discuss the technical details that have gone into producing the engine and the overall systems-level tradeoffs and decisions that have been made.
Financial intermediaries supply derivatives to their customers when they can hedge the exposures from these transactions. A static hedge is typically employed by arranging an offsetting transaction with a different customer or a dynamic hedge by trading in the underlying derivatives. There is however a broad range of uncertain exposures where intermediaries tend not to offer derivatives or risk management products, as they are unable to hedge the resulting exposures. Baron and Lange suggest a parimutuel auction system adapted from the betting industry as a solution to this problem. They introduce the parimutuel mechanism and the modifications required to apply the mechanism to the capital markets. The PDCA auction and its mechanics are analyzed and finally the mathematics behind the system are described and illustrated. "An ambitious study, the fruit of sustained work over many
years. Professor Carter's book deploys a stunning knowledge of
Proust and places Carter among the first line of Proust scholars in
the country." "The Proustian Quest" is the first full-length study that explores the influence of social change on Proust's vision. "In Remembrance of Things Past," Proust describes how the machines of transportation and communication transformed fashion, social mores, time-space perception, and the understanding of the laws of nature. Concentrating on the motif of speed, Carter establishes the centrality of the modern world to the novel's main themes and produces a far- reaching synthesis that demonstrates the work's profound structural unity.
The collaboration and research that was developed to produce the MIT Gas Turbine Engine are described in this book. Both the engine and generator are fabricated from silicon using a combination of bulk and surface microfabrication technologies. The book discusses the technical details that have gone into producing the engine and the overall systems-level tradeoffs, in particular its motor compressors and turbine generators, and the decisions that have been made.
Financial intermediaries typically offer derivatives to their customers only when they can hedge the exposures from these transactions. Baron and Lange show that parimutuel auctions can be used by financial intermediaries to offer derivatives without exposing themselves to risk.
Unlike books currently on the market, this book attempts to satisfy
two goals: combine circuits and electronics into a single, unified
treatment, and establish a strong connection with the contemporary
world of digital systems. It will introduce a new way of looking
not only at the treatment of circuits, but also at the treatment of
introductory coursework in engineering in general.
Drawing on his personal experiences as a Muslim, Professor Lang discusses conflicts between faith and reason, obstacles in converting to Islam, extremism within some Muslim communities and future outlook for American Muslims.
