Interactive Decision Aids in E-Commerce (Hardcover, 2012): Jella Pfeiffer Interactive Decision Aids in E-Commerce (Hardcover, 2012)
Jella Pfeiffer
R2,675 Discovery Miles 26 750 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book gives recommendations on which interactive decision aids to offer in webstores. Interactive decision aids are tools that help online shoppers to compare and evaluate product information. Consumers can, for instance, exclude products that do not meet certain criteria, they can highlight certain information or they can assign ratings of different kinds. Interactive decision aids are important, because finding the preferred product in a short amount of time increases both the customers' satisfaction and, in turn, the sales volume. This book includes a detailed description of decision aids, closely studies how decision aids are related to the decision behavior of customers, and develops a comprehensive system of decision aids, which is very flexible, increases both customer satisfaction and confidence, and can be used intuitively. The close link between typical behaviors and the decision aids allows webstores to learn about customers' decision-making behavior by using a simple click stream analysis. The book is written in an easy-to-read style and provides both practical recommendations and knowledge about consumer behavior

Market Engineering - Insights from Two Decades of Research on Markets and Information (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2021): Henner Gimpel,... Market Engineering - Insights from Two Decades of Research on Markets and Information (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2021)
Henner Gimpel, Jan Kramer, Dirk Neumann, Jella Pfeiffer, Stefan Seifert, …
R1,539 Discovery Miles 15 390 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This open access book provides a broad range of insights on market engineering and information management. It covers topics like auctions, stock markets, electricity markets, the sharing economy, information and emotions in markets, smart decision-making in cities and other systems, and methodological approaches to conceptual modeling and taxonomy development. Overall, this book is a source of inspiration for everybody working on the vision of advancing the science of engineering markets and managing information for contributing to a bright, sustainable, digital world. Markets are powerful and extremely efficient mechanisms for coordinating individuals' and organizations' behavior in a complex, networked economy. Thus, designing, monitoring, and regulating markets is an essential task of today's society. This task does not only derive from a purely economic point of view. Leveraging market forces can also help to tackle pressing social and environmental challenges. Moreover, markets process, generate, and reveal information. This information is a production factor and a valuable economic asset. In an increasingly digital world, it is more essential than ever to understand the life cycle of information from its creation and distribution to its use. Both markets and the flow of information should not arbitrarily emerge and develop based on individual, profit-driven actors. Instead, they should be engineered to serve best the whole society's goals. This motivation drives the research fields of market engineering and information management. With this book, the editors and authors honor Professor Dr. Christof Weinhardt for his enormous and ongoing contribution to market engineering and information management research and practice. It was presented to him on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday in April 2021. Thank you very much, Christof, for so many years of cooperation, support, inspiration, and friendship.

Combinatorial Auctions and Knapsack Problems - An Analysis of Optimization Methods (Paperback): Jella Pfeiffer Combinatorial Auctions and Knapsack Problems - An Analysis of Optimization Methods (Paperback)
Jella Pfeiffer
R1,185 Discovery Miles 11 850 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

With the rapid diffusion of the internet, different kinds of market designs for e-commerce have emerged. Among these, combinatorial auctions (CAs) have gained increased interest as they permit bidders to express their valuations more easily. For applying a CA in real world scenarios, fast algorithms are needed to compute the optimal allocation of the offered goods. Although much research has dealt with this so-called Winner Determination Problem (WDP), only recently has its equivalence to the well-studied multi-dimensional knapsack problem (MDKP) been noticed. Therefore, there is a lack of research which compares approaches for solving MDKP and WDP problems. With this work, the author, Jella Pfeiffer, provides the missing integrative step, aiming at a more intense understanding and a mutual inspiration of both research areas. She examines structural differences of test instances from both domains, compares the performance of different algorithms, and alludes to a successful search behavior of non-exact but fast algorithms. The book addresses readers interested in electronic market design and algorithms solving complex combinatorial optimization problems.
